Lovely warm welcome from Kier and the team. The front of house team are great and obviously have a care for their customers.
Very clean room, bright and fresh. Big towels and comfy bed. Clean bathroom
The room wasn’t what we expected from the photo on our confirmation e mail. We were in an attic room with limited space when we had booked a ‘comfort’ room.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable though.
We dined in the pub on our first night but the food did not impress.
Regrettably, we didn't feel The Red Lion was either good value or a pleasant place to stay. We booked and stayed two nights B&B. The accommodation is what we'd call basic. The breakfast was very poor. The team seemed extremely inexperienced. We felt that The Red Lion is really a drinking pub with accommodation and food as a slightly irritating afterthought. There are plenty of other places to stay in CC for not much more money. Our advice would be to try those first.
Very convenient to all of Chipping Campden's sites and the Cotswolds Way
It was fine - there for a wedding, but disorganised but breakfast pretty good
We were expecting breakfast at 09.00.
No one was to be seen. We tried all doors. Phoned to the number we had . “Someone will come” we were informed.
At 09.20 a lady appeared.” We overslept” We needed to leave to meet friends, so no breakfast!!
While waiting for my room to be ready I was disturbed by the foul language between some of the staff members. It really lived up to the whole “Tavern” experience. (Not all staff-some where very nice). The outdoor seating are had dirty ashtrays, butts stubbed out on the raised flower beds and the picnic beach I sat on was VERY unstable. Room was clean. No hair dryer on the entire property. No one answered or returned calls. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The Expedia App clearly said a full English Breakfast was included with the room, but the staff at the Red Lion said Breakfast was not included. They required that we order the night before, which was fine, but charged me & my friend £15.00 each for a hot breakfast that was minimal at best. Coffee and tea was served at the end of the meal. They ran out of orange juice and water and there were no preserves for the toast. I showed 2 of the staff the statement on the booking page of Expedia for this B& B and they insisted I had to show a receipt with the breakfast itemized.
Then after breakfast we found out that the only other couple there for breakfast was not charged for breakfast when the male customer explained that The Expedia App said the Breakfast was included in the booking. He wasn’t charged and we were.
This really made me angry, so I did not order breakfast for the 2nd morning that we were there, because we should not have been charged.
At the very least we should be refunded the £30. Pounds we paid for the 1st breakfast and given some kind of compensation off the hotel rate for not getting the 2 breakfasts that were suppose to be included with the 2 night hotel stay.
Thank You

They really don’t have a breakfast service. You order something the night before and pub opens @ 9:00.2nd morning the manager didn’t open up so chef served us out the back door & we ate on patio @ 43 degrees with no coffee because he couldn’t get in the bat. Not one chair in room. No WiFi except in pub. Staff was friendly & helpful.
Small attic room with low timber beams, not ideal when your over 6ft tall, felt the need to move around bent over. Breakfast not served until 9am !!
Really enjoyed the accommodation, staff were really helpful and the bar had good food options, breakfast was superb.
This 16th century pub has it all! Clean, spacious rooms, popular British ales and delicious, reasonably priced food.
We spent two nights here before walking the Cotswold way and the location was perfect, right in the center of town, yet cozy and quiet. Our room was quaint, and historic but had all the modern conveniences, and the bathroom was the size of a dance hall! The staff were warm and friendly. From check-in to the final good bye, they couldn’t do enough for us!
Made very welcome by Sophie who explained everything we needed to know. Our room was very clean and cosy.
It was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was excellent, very clean and spacious
Ideal start to Cotswolds Way. Nice clean and comfortable room which.despite being on a road junction, was quiet enough to facilitate a good nughts sleep, helped by the secondary double glazing. An earlier breakfast option might have been helpful to facilitate a fuller day of walking
Went to check in was given a double room not Deluxe Double Room, we paid for the deluxe double room for the use of a bath as unable to use a shower due to disabilities. We also found out in our double room the toilet wasnt working and reported it to reception. The reception told me a plumber would be out to fix between . 4.pm and 5.30 however this was not fixed at all and i had to keep asking . They informed me that it was ok for the night but it wasnt working at all i had to manually fill the cistern up with the shower head . Totally unacceptable.
Nice clean spacious room, which was comfortable. Suited our needs perfectly
We stay in the Jethro room. Which was lovely. Would say due to the size of the room and also the bathroom ( with separate shower and claw footed tub !) could almost be classed as an apartment.
We are in the red lion on the evening and the food was cooked perfectly. The pub itself is lovely with little nooks, and the garden area is great too. Only thing I would say is the pub did have a chill in the evening and could have benefited from having the fireplaces lite ( which would have also added to the atmosphere)
Breakfast in the morning again was done very well very attentive staff.
We would definitely stay again
Would not recommend and if I could give 0 stars, I would. We were shown to the front door of our block and left to find our room, the room was not what was booked - we booked the deluxe room as it was for a birthday and walked into a small double bedroom. As we left to go to reception, the door key didn’t lock the door so had to leave it unlocked. As I walked in to complain, one of the bar staff was using her hands swearing at a customer laughing ignoring me waiting. Eventually came over, and effectively was told they know nothing, and need to speak to the manager. It transpires that there was an error booking - hotels.com blame the red lion and vice versa. They’d switch our booking with the couple who booked the basic room but they’d already checked in.
As a gesture, we were given a bottle of wine. Hotels.com have been unable to obtain approval for a refund from the red lion despite being assured this would be sorted.
To add insult to injury, the toilet only worked in the room if you manually added water to the cistern.
Poor service and would not recommend based on the service received. If booking the double room, be aware this is basic - no basic toilet facilities and it is a double bed not king, as they’ve advertised.
