Location was fantastic. The staff are kind, friendly, willing to help, and eager to make your stay the most comfortable it can be. The ryokan is easy to find; steps away from a bus stop or just down the road from the train station. I appreciated that there was a free shuttle that would come get us from the station if needed - please be sure to let them know in advance.
Check-in was very easy, even with a slight language barrier. Everything was explained so we understood how to use the personal and public baths, where to find our meals, and that we could wear our comfy provided lounge wear. I love knowing what to expect when coming to a resort like this. We were then shown to our lovely and super comfortable rooms, shown how to use the in room onsen, and told to relax until dinner.
Everyting is clean, well maintained, and pleasant. We loved relaxing in the tatami room down on the lower floor. We loved the sound of rushing river just outside our window. We loved the glorious feeling of soaking in the steamy onsen. We enjoyed every bite of our amazing meals. I loved that the staff helped me find my way in to town for shopping. We loved our samue; my toddler was so happy that she got to have some "grown up" clothes like the rest of us. She even got her own kid sized house slippers!
The only thing I wish was available was some sort of outdoor area for my toddler. The ryokan is very family friendly and very welcoming for my toddler, but other than soaking in the bath, there was little else for her to do on site. Perhaps more books in the tatami room, or even a swing out in the courtyard would have been nice. However, that is only adding a wish to what was a perfect stay. I wouldn't really change a thing; we had such a lovely time.
Location. Staff.
It’s old (and not in a good way) and needs to be renovated.
Amazing food. Onsen in the room. Amazing staff. Beautiful location.
It is a little harder to get to than some other places in the area
It had a very Lovely open air bath
The place is old and not well maintained
I liked the private onsen. Some staff friendly helpful. Shuttle to station really good
Being told you have dinner and breakfast at a set time. Having no input on what was delivered. I liked Japanese traditional food but to have no alternative was extremely poor especially hot breakfast no fruit bread or pastries. No coffee or tea at breakfast. Also the hotel needs investment carpets warn items looking unkept. I would not stay again
Traditional Japanese with superb service and attention to detail.
Remote location.
