The staff of Hotel Saheb's Castle do their best, but are limited by the quality of the building itself and the lack of resources, which management has put into the operation. See below.
On the upside, Hotel Saheb's Castle has several walking, short walking paths on the property. We enjoyed getting cocktails at the adjacent Lemon Tree Hotel, which has decks with amazing views of the lower Himalayas. Finally, we enjoyed several dinners at SwissBliss restaurant, which is across the street from Hotel Saheb's and hosted by the very-pleasant "Ravi."
Bathroom was dirty, even after we requested it be re-cleaned after we first arrived. We stayed in the Family Room, but one cannot use the Jacuzzi tub because the on-demand hot water tank is unable to supply hot water beyond 3 minutes. Same for shower. We didn’t see anybody else eating meals in the restaurant. We ate one dinner there, but could not order many of the dishes because the “tandoori chef was not available.”
June is summer holidays for Indians looking to vacation, so the roads to/from town to the lakes area were jam packed during our stay. Hotel Saheb's Castle is 6km from McLeod Ganj, but it took upwards of 30-45 minutes each way via taxi. We were told the taxi fare to McLeod Ganj is 400 rupees one-way. But we paid from 700 to 1000 rupees for rides during our stay.
Also annoying: When reserving through Booking.com, Hotel Saheb's Castle asks that you to pay half the lodging cost up front. Given the quality of the stay, this was particularly irritating.
An Absolute Disgrace: Toxic Staff and Non-Existent Hospitality
Saheb Castle is an absolute disaster of a property, entirely ruined by a toxic culture of arrogance and incompetence. If you are looking for a relaxing trip, avoid this place at all costs. The staff deserves a sub-zero rating for both their subpar facilities and their utterly hostile behavior. The male individual managing the front desk— don’t know if he is the manager or a receptionist—is exceptionally unprofessional. He speaks to paying guests with an unearned, condescending attitude, as if granting you accommodation is a personal favor. This establishment has zero regard for customer experience or basic human courtesy. They are content with providing pathetic service and showing absolutely no desire to correct their behavior.Do not waste a single rupee or a second of your time here. They will gladly take your money and return it with disrespect, entirely ruining your trip. Save yourself the stress and book some other better place for your holidays. Saheb Castle is an embarrassment to the industry.
Location was good
Nothing was working in the room no tv working no bar fridge working
Water leaking under the water tub in the bathroom
No hot water in the tub
Big spider in the room
This was my second stay at this hotel, and have revisited it (2023, 2025) and it never disappointed me, an absolutely delightful experience. You are greeted with a splendid mountain view in the balcony, that instantly set a calming tone for the stay. The room was spacious, clean, and gives you an ease of stay required.
The location of the hotel is perfectly tucked away from noise and crowds, offering a quiet, serene environment ideal for relaxation, you can take morning /evening walks to see the surreal environment. Despite being in such a peaceful spot, it was still easily accessible and well-connected. You can explore the McLeod Ganj market by taking a cab (10 mins). The hotel staff can arrange that for you. Surprisingly Lemon tree is just adjacent, yet the spot captured by Saheb Castle will give you a more defined view. The picture attached show the spot of Saheb Castle.
What impressed me most was that all of this came at a very affordable price, making it a fantastic value-for-money stay. Whether you're looking to unwind, enjoy nature, or simply escape city chaos, this hotel is a wonderful choice.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking comfort, stunning views, and tranquility in the hills!
Lack of facilities can be compensated by sincere service to guests. This property is a prime example of great service quietly without hullabaloo by simple folks taking care of the property. We loved our stay because of them. Our morning walks were made interesting by couple of dogs who escorted us and brought us back safe. Location provides great views of the pine tree valley of Dauladhar. Cherry Blossom along the roads is another reason to choose this property. A good vacation made memorable by Saheb's Castle.
The water overflow in the bathroom was an irritant.
Great service - the best part of our stay! The food is cooked fresh on premises and tastes like home cooked meals. Easy access to taxi services and close to McLeodganj. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed.
The views from the balcony was excellent! It’s a quiet place to unwind and just relax
The property was showing its age. Nothing to do around the property.
The variety in the breakfast buffet.
Breakfast was excellent. Good choice.
Outside hotel area need to be cleaned.
