Funky Monk Hotel

Breakfast start time late for business travellers. A continental coffee/ fruit option would have been great. No coffee in room but I didn’t ask and am sure that would have been resolved if I had.

On arrival, I had to call the hotel and they had to move a car to provide me with a pre-booked parking space. I was staying to attend a local funeral and the delay in getting parked meant that I was then running late. Check-in was seamless and very friendly and if I didn’t have all the other points to raise, I actually wouldn’t mention it.
The fridge was noisy all through the night, there was another fan noise running through the night, I tried turning the bathroom fan on and off, the air con, I have no idea where it was coming from but it was loud.
The bathroom had been cleaned well but the shower had an awful musty smell.
The mirror in the room was in the wrong place making it hard to blow dry my hair. (I’d swap the mirror and the picture to opposite sides to solve this)
It looked as though there used to be a full length mirror that had been smashed and not replaced so it was just a framed black board. Replacing the mirror may help.

Although I was warned at the point of booking and when I arrived that there was a band and I may hear some music, I wasn’t expecting the whole room to vibrate with the bass. I had noise cancelling ear buds in but it was sooooo loud.

If I was staying at the hotel to enjoy the facilities it would have been great and I’d have been downstairs dancing, but I came back to the room at around 10 hoping to sleep at some point before midnight and it wasn’t possible.
I actually said to the guy that showed me to my room that I’m not a complainer, and yet here I am. I paid a lot of money for the room, had it been a lot less money I wouldn’t be so fussy, but at £235 for the night and an extra £15 for breakfast (including early check in and a parking space) it definitely wasn’t good value for money.

Some amenities in room lacking i.e soaps & some lights couldn't be covered. (Blue light on fridge lights whole room all night)

The room we stayed in was freezing. Tried to use unit to warm up but did not work. Not to sound dramatic but it felt as if we were sleeping outside it was that cold.

The shower room was cold due to the single glazed window which was draughty. But we covered it with the dressing gowns and used the bath instead of the shower. Start the bath running 15minutes before you need it and it will fill slowly due to low water pressure. Once filled it’s amazing . There is a fridge with a blue light shining into the bed room.. we covered this whilst sleeping and it was not a problem.

Quite a bit of road noise but that’s to be expected in a prime location. Breakfast times are unusually late.

Absent communications and very poor attitude

The room was sooo cold on arrival and although we set the heater it took hours to heat up. Also unfortunately despite beautiful heavy curtains and shutters because we were facing the high street the noise was unbelievable you could even hear people talking on the street! Secondary glazing essential to make this warmer and quieter,

The bathroom in our room was not separated, it just had a Cristal door which you could see thru when someone was taking a shower
