Cons:

Mon sac à dos a été volé (avec mon passeport à l’intérieur) dans le lobby de l’hôtel par une personne qui est entrée sans autorisation dans l’hôtel. N’importe qui entre dans l’hôtel. Faites très attention. Il n’y a pas de sécurité.
La caméra de surveillance le prouve. Merci au réceptionniste qui m’a envoyé la vidéo du vol car le manager de l’hôtel ne voulait pas qu’il le fasse… Nous sommes censés être en sécurité à l’intérieur d’un hôtel à Rio..
L’hôtel n’a pas voulu faire d’attestation pour m’aider et n’ont même pas voulu me rembourser la nuit passée pour dédommagement. Quel manque de professionnalisme. Á FUIR!

Rio de Janeiro, Lapa district in the city downtown deserves a second chance!
Pros:

The location is the old area of RJ, where the Brazilian bohemian music started. They still have it in bars and restaurants live music every night. The streets are old and dirty but still have old beautiful buildings in need of restoration. Unfortunately, it's also a site of drug dealing. It can be dangerous, so don't walk alone. Don't carry valuable objects; stay close to crowds and very well-lit areas.

Cons:

Walking on the streets looking down for holes, rain stagnated water. Poor people sleeping on the street.
