We love the size of the bed in the executive rooms. They huge and we get a really good night's sleep. We think Southcrest's team are so lovely, from reception to dining room to housekeeping. They are really friendly, considerate, positive people who listen to you and remember you. The restaurant meals have also improved over the last year and we really enjoy eating our way around the menu. The soup is always an unexpected star of the show. Free parking is a bonus too.
This is highly unusual as we stay at Southcrest Manor a lot, but we had to move rooms twice at the very start. Firstly, the main light in the room didn't work and there was an issue with bedding. In the second room the extractor fan didn't work, or the main light again. It was third time lucky for us, and we were relocated with no fuss. A small note regarding the menu in the restaurant: could there be more main salads, a buddha bowl, or hotpot/lasagne with vegetables rather than baguette? There was a couple of days when I didn't feel very well at all. My husband was kind enough to pick up breakfast from the breakfast room for me, but he had to navigate four staircases and several fire doors with it. We had asked if we could get room service but that wasn't an option - maybe that can be considered if people order 24 hours in advance? The only other negative thing is not having power points by the bed, and the pillows can still be a bit flat.
An enjoyable stay, all lovely sraff, excellent facilities and location
The food was excellent
The spa could be renovated
Location
Unfortunately, our stay was extremely disappointing and far below what we would expect from a 4-star hotel.
The building and room were not clean. The carpets were visibly dirty and clearly needed hoovering. In our room we found four spiders, cobwebs that had not been dusted, mould in the shower, food stains on the curtains, and hairs present in the bathroom. The overall standard of cleanliness was unacceptable.
We also experienced an issue with no hot water. When we contacted reception, the night manager responded, “What do you want me to do about it?” This was unprofessional and dismissive. We had to suggest that alternative rooms be checked, and after checking several rooms, it appeared the issue was more widespread.
Breakfast was served cold and was not good value for money.
Overall, the hotel does not currently reflect 4-star standards. Each room clearly needs a thorough and consistent cleaning process, and customer service standards require significant improvement.
Comfortable bed, clean.
Shower pressure was not good. The bathroom was a little tired and could do with an update.
The duvet inside the sheet was old and needed replacing.
Tea making machine was tucked away in a cupboard and I didn’t even see it until we were leaving, which was a shame.
It’s close to Redditch hospital where I was having an operation
There is no hot shower. I ran it for 18 minutes and and followed their instructions to run the bath tap hot first. It went lukewarm a couple of times then freezing cold again.
Staff were friendly
Had to wait 20minutes to check in, no staff about and no answer from reception phone. Room vaw very noisy, had to get night manager to sort noise out on our second night! Sounded like constant macerator toilet. Light pollution in room from external lights which were on all night.
Excellent value for money.
The location and ambience were excellent - a beautiful old manor house with remarkable grounds.
Room was vey clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was satisfactory.
Nothing.
We only used the hotel to stay overnight.
The shower pressure was poor. The shower only has one screen & water easily gets on the floor. This seems to be the norm as we have stay at the hotel before.
Good choice but cooked breakfast cold
Noisy room ment to be a executive room small bed and very sparse
House and gardens are lovely, rooms are unique and have character. The staff were lovely, and tried their best to help when things didn’t quite go to plan.
It’s dated and in need of a refurb. Keys for door locks and my room didn’t seem to lock properly. Significant lack of hot water in the rooms for showers etc. Ordered room service two nights in a hotel own on the app they make you download, only for the order to not arrive.
