Room was dated. Shower curtain was dirty at base. Frosted glass window in room as it was above kitchen vent stack area, greasy smell when window was opened slightly.
Meals. The meals were very poor. I booked bed breakfast and evening meals. The breakfast & evening food were very dry, as if its was cooked hours in advanced. e.g. sausages, bacon etc was very dry. Overall the food quality was extremely poor.
Impressive victorian hotel with a good atmosphere. Clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed. good shower. Nice bar. Plenty of parking. Quiet peaceful location with great views weather permitting.
The walk to our room was quite long when carrying luggage. Covered parking for our motorbikes would have been nice but good safe feeling parking otherwise.
The staff on reception and the bar ( often one and the same) worked like Trojans….
Spectacular wooden interior…..
The food was shocking…..so poor we dined in the village after the first night..even though we paid for a evening meal
It was shocking
Breakfast was a travesty…not a clue…two coach loads of foreign travellers cleared out the morning offering….staff couldn’t cope…chef was none existent
No leadership…..appalling
Outside was sick with weeds…
Exterior of hotel was derelict….a room with a view of a derelict balcony is no view at all
Stayed in many of these ex railway hotels in Scotland….this is the worst….
Avoid eat there if you have to stay…..
Rooms serviced……it’s a fluid service…..
Staffing a major issue…..
Beautiful location, friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed, well stocked bar and good entertainment on the Saturday night
The food and menu could (should) have been better
Nice traditional hotel
Location and communal bar area
Old, dated not clean in places, breakfast poor quality weeds all over communal areas no attention to detail very overpriced
Very friendly staff
Rather restricted dinner menu
Very little.
The dining experience was appalling, Cheapo "boil in the bag" fare at scandalous prices, no apology from the management for their offerings. Dreadful place, will never go there again.
Clean comfortable bed. Good location
Bathroom needs a good scrub.
No Hairdryer.Diningroom staff were nice but it was a bit like Fawlty Towers!!Disorganised chaos but not the fault of the waitress s.Reception staff did not seem very friendly or know what was going on.
Dat het in Schotland was
Ouderwets niet meer van deze tijd. Was waarschijnlijk ooit een hotel met aanzien. Nu al lang niet meer. Geldt voor het hele dorp.
Reception staff were very helpful
Staff at breakfast were unhelpful and rude
Room was small but had everything you’d need
Bathroom floor not clean , dinning experience was very poor - a lot of staff running around looking after coach party but ignoring rest of guests . Not a set table in sight. One girl started to get us a table cleared then vanished. No one gave us a menu we had to get one from another guest . Took ages to be served when it did come was very poor quality frozen fish with some reheated chips . Breakfast not much better again no clean table no staff serving, no tea in tea urn but breakfast items were at least hot .
The bedroom was clean and newly decorated. Great singer on the Saturday night. Saturday afternoon and evening’s bar man was very helpful and apologetic
The outside is in need of updating, painting and renovation work. Our room on the first floor was clean and tidy but the view from the window was appalling. The broken railings looked awful, a spoon on the floor and generally looked unkept. We booked half board, a big mistake, the evening meal was below average with less than good service. Breakfast was good however we were sat at a table laid for 1, we were quickly given cutlery but no napkin or cups. I asked for cups and that’s exactly what we got, just cups no saucers.
I discussed these concerns with the receptionist in the morning, who turned out to be the manager, she advised that the broken cup would be replaced and comments passed to the Chief.
Upon our return that evening nothing had changed.
Every room had a telephone - no it doesn’t.
The lift could not be called as the button didn’t appear to work on the first floor.
Friday afternoon, just outside the front door there was an ashtray full of cigarette ends and 2 used mugs which were still there on Saturday afternoon !
Saturday afternoon the bar had no wine, I suggested someone go to Tesco and that’s what happened!
Thank goodness for the amazing wine bar in the village where we went to celebrate a big birthday.
A totally unexpected experience at this hotel, the photos of the outside of the property are not recent.
The garden - the path is overgrown !
A once beautiful hotel in much need of love, money and time being spent on it.
A extremely disappointing experience for what should have been a great weekend celebrating.
