Of course the location is very central. We chose this place because of the proximity to Santa Monica beach.

No frills , good location
Pros:

It’s close proximity to third promenade and pier . Easy to walk down street and catch tour in 5 minutes. Probably one of best locations in Santa Monica

Pleasant stay in older hotel
Pros:

Great location in downtown Santa Monica. Older property with decent sized rooms. Attractive lobby with period details. Amenities included a Keuric machine with pods, bottled water. No microwave or refrigerator. Housekeeping came in every day and made the bed and changed towels. The weather was mild during our stay, so we did not use the AC/heat unit.

Location A+ and Friendly, accommodating staff
Pros:

Hotel Carmel is two minutes from Santa Monica Pier and the beach. Location is amazing. Very clean and extremely helpful and friendly staff make your stay fantastic. Huge thank you for allowing us to check in at 8:30 am in the morning after a long flight from Australia. This was worth its weight in gold! Just being able to have a shower and freshen up before getting along with our day was amazing.

Cons:

The water pressure in the shower is very weak.
Request a room on the outer sides of the building to avoid the inner noise from outside air conditioning units.

Excellent hotel in great central location. Highly recommended
Pros:

Loved this family owned and operated hotel. Staff were outstanding and they were ever so friendly and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean, beds and pillows super comfy. Excellent location only 5 minute walk to waterfront, and downtown rail terminal and.no more that 10 minutes and your on Santa Monica Pier of beach.

Cons:

Absolutely nothing to dislike here.

A wonderful stay
Pros:

The location was perfect for the price. The staff was friendly, the room stayed cold. I will definitely be staying here again next time I'm in town.

Cons:

The only complaints I have are that there were no curtains to block early morning sunrise and did not have a fridge in my room. Other than that, everything else was great.

Would not recommend due to price and poor quality of stay. The location is awful.

Pretty disappointed. Poor location, very busy street and poor noise cancellation from windows. Rooms and entire establishment was very outdated. Bedding had stains as well as some of the towels. Ventilation was poor in the rooms as well. The outdoor area does not feel safe at night. Would not stay here again and would recommend traveler's to stay somewhere else. Unfortunately this area of Santa Monica is no longer safe regardless if it is considered beach front.
