Viaggio con la famiglia, abbiamo passatto 4 giorni rilassanti ( abbiamo allungato di 2 giorni rispetto al programma) in un atmosfera affascinante a pochi passi dal mare, immersi nella natura. Un posto fuori dal solito
High points - (i) Absolutely stunning location. Right on the beach. We spent hours at night just lying on the beach listening to the sea and watching the starlit sky. And then woke up early morning to watch the sun rise from the seas. Location wise it is slightly far from the main town Trinco and Nilaveli, but if you are looking to be away from the buzz and truly experience quiet and nature, with the soud of the sea hitting your ears all day, this location is the place! (ii) Nirang and Chandri, the two caretakers of this place are just the most beautiful, gentle, kind people you will meet. They make you feel at home and shower you with warmth and love. More importantly, they find ways to compensate and make up for the ups and downs of the place.
Not-So-High Points - (i) the place clearly had a glorious past. The corner sea-viewing room on the first floor is HUGE and well lit wth a balcony. However, the room isnt well maintained. The wooden floorboards are creaky and broken in places...so they've covered the room with a net-like rug so you don't see this. It's not the safest to walk around as your foot gets stuck every now and then in this rug that's spread across the room. (But then, they thoughtfully give you house slippers to wear, to take care of this aspect!) The bed was great to sleep in and linen was good too. However, the curtains were frayed (but who cares about that really!) Another little issue we faced was no hot water in the bathroom. The monkeys had tampered with the geyser!!! (But again, Nirang and Chandri ensured we got hot water in a bucket everyday for our bath!) We wanted a mini fridge in our room...and bam! it was brought up and connected. If you are okay to ignore these little things, the place is fantastic!
Beautifully designed, like a designer boutique resort with a sort of minimalist Scandinavian or Japanese aesthetic….lots of big vast spaces, plenty of natural light, trees all around, secluded and secret, away from the tourist beaches….constant sound of the waves, fully starry night skies just a small walk away from your room - feels like being at the edge of the world.
But the best best BEST part of the stay were the wonderful staff, or shall I say “hosts” (because they make you feel so at home!) Niraang and Chandi….they take care of you and feed you like family, as if you have come to your grandparents’ vacation home. Never have we felt so warmly treated and fed and cared for by our hosts.
If you’re looking for a quiet getaway with lots of silence and stillness, this is the spot for you.
The maintenance is a little off the mark. It feels like a once-beautiful space now fallen into disuse. Certain basics like plumbing, hot water, switches, locks, stairs, curtains etc could definitely use a revamp.
But again, the beauty of the space and care of the staff makes up for it!
The best place to stay in the Trincomalee area of you like beautiful and peaceful surroundings. A private and clean beach, wonderful hosts and good Sri Lanka food. Our family loved it!
The room was clean and large . It had a few added extras you expect from a higher end accommodation . The internet was good . The proximity to the beach was fantastic … we virtually had it to ourselves .
Its location is very isolated which means you need to eat at the hotel . All breakfasts and our first dinner were Western and they were unable to cater for gluten free even though they said they would . This is the first time this had occurred in 21 days of travelling in Sri Lanka staying at a range of accomodation from home stays and not expensive accomodation . It was very upsetting as this hotel was not cheap .The staff did try hard but there seemed to be restrictions that led to the above statement .
The shower water pressure is non existent ( room 102 balcony ) .
The location, the staff Chandry and Eranga - the delicious food - we had breakfast and dinner there for the whole 3 days we stayed and the large spacious room.
Nothing
Great location, right on beautiful Nilaveli Beach. Friendly staff.
Disappointing amenities. Dark room with inadequate lighting. Bathroom tap fell off every time I turned it on. Rust stains on the bath. Areas of hotel, such as reception, look like an unfinished building site. Overpriced.
We spent a carefree 3 weeks here and truly wished we could have stayed longer. This is a fantastic place run by incredibly warm and welcoming hosts who do everything to make your stay unforgettable.
From the moment we crossed The Black Forest's threshold, we felt it: we are welcome. And it's not just the proximity of the warm sea or beautiful beach - above all it's the people. Owners are absolutely amazing people. They did not just host us, they made us feel at home.
The hotel is located slightly off the beaten path, which guarantees peace and privacy. Just a few steps away, there’s a beautiful, wide, and almost empty beach – perfect for relaxing and swimming. The hotel provides sunbeds and umbrellas, and the sea is calm and pleasantly warm.
We were absolutely delighted by the food – in our opinion, the best we experienced in Sri Lanka. Both breakfasts and dinners were delicious, varied, and prepared with great care. The menu combines traditional local flavors with more European-style dishes, always delicous. We left the choice of dishes to the chef, and it was the best decision – every evening brought a new and tasty surprise that we eagerly looked forward to.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. Wi-Fi works very well. The owners are happy to help organize trips, for example to nearby Pigeon Island or other interesting spots in the area. They are genuinely kind and dedicated – they made us feel completely at home.
We wholeheartedly recommend this place – it was truly a special stay.
We had to come back to home.
