We were two couples, and took 2 of the 3 rooms at this place. Our rooms were basically right on the beach and we walked out on the sand to go for a walk or swim. Views of the ocean were outstanding; we watched whales from our private decks. Very beach-like accommodations, which we loved. Not a typical, regular hotel room, which we also loved. The place had character. Host was nice, responsive and available when we needed him. We could walk to a few different nice restaurants (at nearby hotels) or drive to small town for more options. And a nearby beach had multiple eating places on the sand which were fun. Totally loved our stay, and felt we had the best place for how we like to travel. If you need your own pool, restaurant, room service, and a typical basic hotel room, this place is not for you. If you want to to chill out, and feel like you really experienced a Oaxacan beach and surroundings, this if for you.
This wasn't related to this place, but more for the neighborhood of hotels in this area: There are multiple hotels and houses on this beach and going up the hill. Deciding which road to take to get to our place, to the beach or when leaving the area was challenging at first because it is a snarl of sand/dirt roads servicing all the places tightly packed on the hillside, and some roads are too steep to easily drive. We figured it out via some trial and error, but more consistent community way-finding signage to and from the actual beach (and thus our place) would help.
Exceptional location, remote with an immediate access to the beach in front of the place. The place itself consists of a bedroom with a separate bathroom. To be noted the shower is excellent (pressure and temperature). It's all clean, comfortable and the only sound to be heard is the one from the sea. There is a hammock and a bathtub outside (but difficult to fill it with hot water, it quickly runs out of hot water). There is a kitchen area outside, good for small cooking which is good since there is not much catering around. This was the best place we stayed during our 2 weeks trip in Mexico. Amazing experience for a couple.
The access to get there is difficult. Dirt road which becomes impossible at the end if you don't have clearance high enough under your car. We had to walk the last 400 meters. This is clearly something to improve (also add some signs on the road to avoid taking the shortest way which is not good).
The sliding door could get some improvement.
Right by the ocean, overlooking the ocean, outdoor kitchen, shaded hangout areas outside, lounge chairs, hammock, outdoor beach shower, beach towels, attentive staff who brought us water and checked in on us, helped when we needed help, provided some good recommendations, close to Huatulco national park and Playas Maguey and Cacaluta.
The roads getting to the property are in bad shape. It may have been the season, but there were not many restaurants or shops open nearby, so it felt even more remote. Salchi beach was not swimable - surf was unsafe, so we had to walk. The door was heavy and sticky. The internet was not super consistent and there is no cell service.
Location is excellent
Bathroom has no door
Alex, our host did a great job looking after us. Accommodations were excellent. Proximity to the beach and great eateries were terrific
It was really excellent but if I’m being very picky perhaps better lighting in the bathroom/vanity area
Absolutely majestic. Amazing host. So friendly and accommodating.
The accommodations were very comfortable and beautiful. The beach and ocean were stunning and very few people. The hosts were so helpful and attentive.
Salchi itself has very little amenities. The tienda is limited and a 20 minute walk, and not necessarily open consistently. The restaurant options in the area are very limited and not very good. I'd recommend buying ingredients at a supermarket before arriving in salchi. The accommodation has everything you need to cook delicious meals.
This is just the area in general and does not reflect on bendita luna itself, but something to take into consideration.
It was a small paradise hidden from the crowds.
The owner was always there to help and have amazing conversations.
Nothing, everything was better than expected.
It's a wonderful place in one of the most beautiful beaches in Oaxaca. I loved how the huts are built to fit into nature. We had a fully equiped outdoor kitchen, a breakfast terrace with a stunning view as well as a sun deck with two sun beds. Alberto, the owner, is very invested in the place and always there if you need anything. He even cut us fresh coconuts right from the palm trees. This is not an anonymous big hotel, it's a real Mexican place where you feel at home and as part of the family.
I have nothing negative to say about "Bendita Luna", but you need to know that there is not a lot of infrastructure around. There is only very few restaurants, and in my opinion they are a bit pricy for what they offer. We did not mind since we were prepared to cook some meals by ourselvs and since this also means there is not a lot of people in general, but it's good to know beforehand.
The perfect place to relax with one of the best beaches I've seen in Mexico... highly recommend this stay, we were so impressed! Albert is such a kind and gracious host, don't second guess booking here. You will not be disappointed, we will definitely be back!
