A very well run country hotel. The place has a lot of character. the rooms are quiet and with excellent facilities eg very modern bathroom.
the food is well cooked and decently priced.
It's such a beautiful building, you feel like you're entering a baronial hall. The Oregon pine wood panelling and doors create a wonderful ambience.
The owner took time to explain the history of the building and was very conscientious in looking after us. I much appreciated his complimentary hot chocolate late night drink!

A wonderful hotel with exceptional owner and staff. Dinner and breakfast were excellent as was the perfectly chilled Poretti. We felt privileged to have enjoyed a long weekend there. Book this hotel and you will not be disappointed.

Breakfast was good but could be better with a little more choice.
Shower in the bathroom was the only thing that wasn't perfect, it looked like there was a power shower but the water only came from the smaller shower head and was quite slow and not very powerful. Other than that the room and rest of the hotel was perfect, very clean and full of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Only negative we have {but nothing to do with the hotel was lack of taxi services, it was almost impossible to get a taxi and the only one we could get was charging way too much for a short 5min journey (unfortunately the destination we required wasn't walkable). Luckily a friend was nearby and picked us up.

The location
On arrival we were told we’d been given an upgrade. It was a dark room overlooking the dustbins and we were disturbed by rubbish collection- early morning deliveries and very early pipes rattling when boilers started up. At breakfast when we asked for a pot of tea we were pointed to a vacuum jug of tea that was sat on the side presumably being there since breakfast started. We were asked 5 times by the abrupt waitress whether we wanted white or brown toast - she couldn’t remember when she got to kitchen. We gave up with breakfast in the hotel after that and had a very enjoyable breakfast in the town - and it was half the price of hotels which wasn’t included.
