Could be great, but AVOID as rooms filthy and tatty!
Pros:

The building was beautiful, in a lovely setting. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Cons:

Our room was small but REALLY badly maintained and absolutely filthy! The bedding and towels were fresh, but the rest was disgusting. There’s no way rooms like that should be let out. We reluctantly stayed the night as we didn’t have time to find anywhere else before going out for the evening. Also, neither of the ‘Hydra’ EV chargers worked. The manager gave us a full refund for our nights stay. It’s a real shame; for us and the hotel staff. The hotel owners need to ‘splash a little cash’ on this lovely hotel, as we won’t be returning until they do!

Pleasant enough for a last-minute stop on way to Scotland. Lovely atmospheric bar with a log fire.
Pros:

Lovely period hotel with nice features. The bar is unique with lovely murals on the walls depicting Dickens' novels.
Pleasant and polite staff.
Excellent breakfast cooked to order.

Cons:

The bed was awful. It was far too soft and uncomfortable.
My evening meal was not the best. Pasta Arrabiatta was drowned in sauce and not very spicy. Partner enjoyed his Butter Chicken though.
Socket for bedside lamp is hidden behind the bed and the lead is far too short.
Needed to charge the phone but had to charge it across the room.

Great to celebrate our mother’s visit 80 years ago.
Pros:

History. Location . Comfortable.

Cons:

Noisy on last morning due to interior work.
Didn’t have room serviced so but awkward as had put wet towels in the shower to be collected but obviously had to dry them out as hadn’t been changed.
