Superb location with high potential
Pros:

- Magnificent location
- Peaceful

Cons:

- Room and facilities (indoor and outdoor pool) a bit tired
- No air conditioning in the room
- No mini bar in the room
- One of the 2 days we’ve been there we had the feeling the place was understaffed as there were many dirty plates, glasses around and no staff to collect orders or clean the tables
- Standard breakfast

The hotel itself has lots of character but there is a problem with service. We checked in 2 hours early but our room wa
Pros:

Grounds are stunning. Food pretty good although expensive for what it was I think

Cons:

No air conditioning in any rooms. Picture of junior suite belies the actual bedroom size which is tiny. Seemed to be lots of staff but kept waiting for service even when you have made yourself known.

Lovely place and great food
Pros:

Breakfast was amazing, staff lovely, Dinner was also excellent, love all the touches that some hotels dont think of, plug near a mirror for my partner to use for hair before evening, products in bathroom. The grounds are amazing

Cons:

On the website the dinner shows a 'sample menu' So I already thought I would have the fillet steak and we would share a rhubarb crumple, both on the day no longer on the menu (replaced by lamb and creme brulle' When I mentioned this the waiter spoke to manager and came back and told us that was a 'sample menu'. I mentioned that a sample meant that it has these, but more in most places. More likely just dont update website.
Wanted to spend until 1300 by pool on day of leaving, but absolutely no spaces left at 0900 anywhere by pool so just left. 2 Gin and Tonics was £48, thats more than I spend in Chaps Elysses Paris.

Could do better with a little more effort
Pros:

Great location and historical property. Lovely gardens. Plenty of room choices.

Cons:

Hasn’t really been updated since our last visit in 2016. The indoor pool, steam and sauna are particularly disappointing now. Staff seem a bit overwhelmed and indifferent. Radiator leaking over bathroom floor not resolved after 3 days and no explanation or updates.

Stunning hotel in beautiful grounds. Highly recommend.
Pros:

The grounds are beautiful. We stayed on a sunny bank holiday weekend, and drinks on the outdoor terrace in the evening sun were pure bliss. We had a large party with us, and the staff accommodated us with ease. Excellent service and good food from the bar. I was very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the rooms - we stayed in the courtyard (so away from the main building) but the rooms had been newly refurbished to a high standard and were incredibly spacious. Molton Brown toiletries were a lovely touch. My family really enjoyed the outdoor pool, which was warm as a bath.

Cons:

There seems to be some integration issues between Booking.com and the hotel booking system. I booked multiple rooms for our party, and upon clicking through to payment, they defaulted to single occupancy (which I had clearly not selected) which caused some faff at check in. This happened randomly on 2-3 of the 10 rooms I booked, and was a pain to resolve through Booking.com.

Overpriced.
Pros:

Loved the grounds and the room and the building is well maintained (if a little dated)

Cons:

The food was extortionate and not good quality, and the service was also not great (though reception staff were very friendly)

Pros:

Beautiful gardens and hotel.
Good location.
Friendly staff.
In hot days outdoor pool is a bonus.
Good kids menu.

Cons:

It was 33°C and no air con at all in the building or rooms. Fans in the room very outdated. Restaurant food wasn't that nice and only few options to choose. Very overpriced food and drinks, cocktail was £20 plus 12.5% service charge, also didn't taste nice.
Outdoor pool very limited lounges.

Disappointed
Pros:

Generally, the staff were kind and helpful. The deputy manager, a lady, was horrible and felt that she was doing us a favour by providing service.

The grounds were well kept.

Cons:

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received during my birthday celebration at this hotel restaurant. While the food itself was generally delicious, the overall dining experience was poor and left my friends and me feeling overlooked and undervalued throughout our stay.

On the first night, our dinner reservation was for 6:30pm, yet we did not receive our food until 8:30pm. What made the experience even more frustrating was seeing guests who arrived after us being served before us. During the meal, no waiter came to check whether we were satisfied with our food or needed anything. We constantly had to wave our hands to get the attention of staff. Although the food tasted good, the avocado, poached eggs, and Scarborough bread were served hard and dry, which was disappointing.
The following morning at breakfast, service remained disorganised as not everyone at our table received their tea and coffee at the same time.

Unfortunately, the second evening was even worse. We noticed that other tables were being served canapés while our table was completely ignored. When we raised this with the deputy manager, she gave what I can only describe as a poor excuse, claiming she had been too busy taking and placing our orders “on time.” She then insisted she had done her best by serving us first, which simply was not true.

To make matters worse, we ordered Passion Fruit Martinis, which were served in wine glasses instead of martini glasses. When this was queried, the deputy manager claimed the restaurant had run out of martini glasses, despite the fact that other guests were clearly being served cocktails in proper martini glasses. Her nonchalant attitude throughout the interaction was very disappointing. Rather than apologising or attempting to resolve the situation professionally, she became argumentative, which only escalated the issue further.

Beautiful hotel and grounds, felt like you had stepped back in time to a claasical era.
Pros:

The hotel and grounds were fabulous. It looked and was exactly as I hoped, elegant and classicly historic.
The room was spacious, checking in was hassle free and welcoming, the breakfast room and food was lovely.

Cons:

1. The room was too hot. The hotel must know this as they provided electric fans in the room. Kept waking up in the night either too hot or too cold.
2. The adjacent room had their TV volume loud until 3am, very little sound proofing in the room to prevent this.
3. Purchased a hot chocolate and liquor coffee in the evening, cost was £28!! Incuded a £3 servive charge. Very, very expensive for a coffee, with a shot of Tia Maria and cream.
4. Spa facilities wete basic and limited. Indoor pool had only a few liungers (all taken up) with one small jucazzi. Small sauna for two people in the changing room. Gelt a bit dayed.
