The staff is not friendly. The main door for the hotel is closed, so you need to go to the bar to access the door going to the hotel. Since my son is autistic, he was curious and tried to see what was inside the bar, even though I tried to tell the staff that my son was autistic and he was just curious and did no harm, but the staff tried to push him back and raised his voice, and no one was allowed to go inside the bar and could only sit on the chair in front of the bar. Since my son was not comfortable with what the staff did to him, we were not able to sleep because my son refused to stay there, but we didn't have any choice at that time; we couldn't see another accommodation available.
Close distance to drive to the snow for a cheap price (much cheaper than I could find in Cooma) The heater made the room lovely and warm.
Lovely owner
Nothing
The location suited us
Beds were the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept on, springs jabbing out of the mattresses and beds weren’t even clean with bits of fluff etc in the bed
The location was superb & very close to the highway
The shared washrooms were quiet old
Lovely stay at the Federal. A warm, inviting old pub with kind and hospitable staff. If your expectations are correctly calibrated for a pub room in an old country pub, they will be exceeded. Very cozy and warm with a nice fire going in the corner of the bar when we walked in. Everyone was welcoming to us and to our dog, who also enjoyed the stay. My wife and I will be back.
It's a pub room with shared bathrooms - these could use heating but I'm not sure how one would go about it in an energy efficient way especially with only a few guests staying.
Friendly staff and value for money meals
Good value for money
Owner was caring , advised not to rush through night to avoid animals and organised alternative key pick up for out of hour arrival
I cannot complain anything for the money I paid
Great location. Really lovely staff. Very warmly welcomed by “Tooth” -an intelligent observant man masquerading as a knockabout bushie. A comfortable bed, albeit with a surprisingly eclectic range of items underneath it. Warm bar, fireplace an air of unpredictability about it. Not your franchised, plastic motel style of place, so if you go with an open mind, you’ll enjoy your stay.
A bit difficult to access the outside area late at night if you’re travelling with a pet, and she needs to go out for a minute. Not the hotel’s fault though, and I appreciate that they allow pets at all. Exceptionally poor lighting. I’ve come across some dull lighting in my travels, but this is blue ribbon dingy. A little bedside lamp would fix the issue, and make it feel cosier.
Value for money. Great spot to have a sleep and everything you need.
Found a safe place for the (push) bikes for the night, and burger and beer were perfect after making our way riding from Canberra. Headed to Berties in the morning for a great breakfast and coffee.
All in all, it is a perfect cost-effective spot if you are looking for a place to rest after a day on a push bike.
