Hotel White House - A Family Homestay

We booked a room with air-conditioning but the air-conditioning doesnt work. The ower said they had no money to fix it but they didnt remove it from booking.com. They didnt apologise or offer any discount on the room. They provided an aircooler but it was loud, ineffective and it leaked a lot of water.
The owner was pushy with wanting us to eat in his restaurant. They constantly spoke about their money issues. We felt they were trying to pressure us to spend more out of guilt. We ate the free breakfast but immediately after they asked us for help to remove the free breakfast from some of the rooms on booking.com due to the cost.
They took us to the atm which we thought was kind but then they asked for the room payment immediately while still at the atm. They then immediately deposited the money we gave and showed us it was the only cash in their account, followed by another uncomfortable discussion about their money problems.
They lock the door on the property whenever you leave. You have to call the ower to get back in. You then cant enter freely without having another discussion about their money problems and more pressure to eat at the restaurant.
They also spoke about how people who leave bad reviews receive bad karma.
Finally they started cleaning our room before we had a chance to remove our bags. They were commenting on the number of empty bottles we left in the bin which felt intrusive.

Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing and did not meet our expectations.

We booked a room with breakfast included, but upon arrival, the owner told us that breakfast was not included in the price. He also said he did not know how to change the room options on Booking.com and suggested that the additional money would help cover the electricity bills. We were then offered an upgrade to a room with a balcony view, which we politely declined.

The owner was very persistent in encouraging us to have dinner at the property. We were happy to do so, but on departure, we discovered that a service charge had been added to our bill for eating in his home. This was particularly surprising, as this is the first time we have been charged a service charge anywhere in India during our travels. It also felt contradictory given that the owner had explained that he offered hospitality out of love rather than for money.

The room itself was very basic, and unfortunately, the air conditioning did not work. When we went to bed, we discovered that the bedding was not clean, with no sheets on the bed and hairs on the pillowcase. We messaged the owner, and he changed the sheets straight away, which we appreciated. However, clean bedding should be provided as standard without guests having to request it.

On departure, the owner also attempted to charge us again for taxes, despite these already being included in our Booking.com reservation. When we questioned this, he said he did not know what the taxes listed on the booking meant.

Overall, we found the repeated confusion surrounding the booking, the additional charges, and the condition of the room disappointing. Although the owner responded promptly when we raised the issue with the bedding, the stay fell short of our expectations, and we would have appreciated greater transparency regarding the price, inclusions, and additional charges from the outset.

La camera prenotata non era disponibile e me ne è stata data una inferiore (senza sconto), ma soprattutto erano in corso dei lavori di tinteggiatura con vernici e solventi che hanno reso l'aria irrespirabile. Volevo fermarmi un giorno in più ma sono dovuto andare nell'hotel di fronte perché era impossibile dormire in un cantiere.

Il cibo, come detto, è molto buono. Peccato che il prezzo sia molto più alto che altrove, ma lo si impara solo alla fine (non c'è un menù) quando hernant, sorridendo, fa il conto.
Per una cena e un piccolo extra alla colazione (che era inclusa) ho speso 1500 rupie. Per meno della metà si mangia in ottimi ristoranti li vicino.

Esperienza complessivamente deludente. Non è stata brutta, ma speravo meglio.
È un hotel senza tante energie positive.

La struttura è datata ma tenuta abbastanza bene
