Donkey clinic and education center

My stay here was the absolute best. I ended up staying here for 9 nights because I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave. The room is spacious and clean. The food is also really good. Most of all staying here you get to experience the donkeys close up and all the other amazing work they do here (from providing education to supporting the local community). I loved getting to know the donkey closely and was able to groom them, spend as much time with them as I wanted and bought them bananas and carrots for treats which was so lovely to see their excitement. I was able to volunteer to help out during my stay which I can recommend as it was a really rewarding experience. Also Alhathir offers tours that take you all around the biggest sights of Mannar which I did and it was the best experience. The family and staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I really recommend staying here if you want an authentic experience while supporting a really good cause. You might end up staying longer than you planned, just like me :)

I have only just left and am already constantly thinking about coming back as I loved it so much.

Loved the donkeys, very quiet isolated place.Unfortunately the wife was not feeling well so she only managed to give us dinner for the first night.Stayed three nights so it was a slight inconvenience to have to go out for breakfast,lunch and dinner.However the family running the place we're really kind and even though not well they let me use the washing machine and even hung my clothes out because I was off getting breakfast.

Such a great way to learn more about the history of donkeys in Sri Lanka. Would recommend staying here instead of just visiting for a day.
You can really see how much passion they put into the work, and the owners were incredibly welcoming.

You get a tour of the donkey sanctuary and can feed the donkeys. Had a lot of fun! Room was clean and breakfast was very good. Help these guys out, they are doing a great job with helping the unlucky donkeys and the local comunity. Very friendly and helpful owners who can also organise bird watching activities.

Charming place, particularly with the friendly donkeys. The staff are exceptionally warm and welcoming. The room was nicer than most, with good AC. Very quiet. It's about a kilometer from the main road. I enjoyed sitting in the outdoor area. I took a scooter from Mannar, and that is a great way to visit this whole area.

Les enfants ont adoré séjourner dans une clinique pour les ânes. Le jardin est clos et sécurisé c'est confortable en famille.

Sehr gepflegte Anlage, geräumige, saubere Zimmer . Wir haben ein leckeres Abendessen gekocht bekommen. Der Leiter der Esel-Klinik war sehr freundlich, hat uns nützliche Tipps gegeben. Mit Herzblut leitet der die Esel-Klinik. Mit einem Aufenthalt dort unterstützt man das Projekt

Location and hospitality.

This place is just amazing! The room is clean, comfortable and has everything you need. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner available which is just incredible.
The whole team is super friendly and helpful, especially the owner. We got a presentation and tour of the donkey clinic and the work they do here for the animals. Their dedication to the donkeys is just incredible.
Mannar is a really good place for birdwatching. With the tip of the owner on where to go we even managed to see flamingos.
Can only recommend staying here!

I stayed for two nights and had a very nice time. Birdwatching in this area was my only interest. It's run by a lovely family and the owner turned out to be a very good birdtourguide himself. In the early morning he took us out watching in the nearby reserve. Furthermore the stay offered a basic room, motorbike rental to explore the rest of the island and probably the best cooked meals I tasted in Sri Lanka 🙏
My time here was well spend and the location is easily reachable by public busses and renting the motorbike was a good option for me to explore the rest of the island in one day. Value for money is outstanding. Oh, they have donkeys and I fell in love with them eventually and so will you...

Posto fantastico sia per la camera, il posto in generale e i servizi, sia per il progetto di salvare gli asini.
Lo staff ci ha dato il benvenuto con una bevanda fresca e ci ha fatto una bella presentazione del centro e della situazione degli asini sull’isola di Mannar. È stato molto interessante.
Gli asini sono tenuti benissimo e sono anche amichevoli.
La famiglia può cucinare anche i pasti
È la struttura perfetta per stare a Mannar.
