Our stay at the Lowther was exceptional...
Upon arrival the staff advised on the best options for local parking and were friendly and approachable.
When we checked in the staff helped us with ideas and locations for the best Thai restaurant (Rosas - you wont be disappointed!) within walking distance and recommended other sights to see during our stay.
Nothing was too much trouble and the bar staff along with the supervisor (little short young lady - sorry i forget her name!) whom showed us to our room and advised they were there to help if we needed anything.
Currently there is 25% OFF FOOD AND DRINKS at the Lowther AND their two sister companies next door so we did in fact save money when we weren't expecting to!
The Lowther is placed FANTASTICALLY if you're going to the OPERA HOUSE. its literally out the back door. We went to a show there our first night and it was quicker to go to the hotel in the interim to use the loo rather than queue with the other patrons in the building!
The Lowther also backs onto York Dungeons and is within 2 minutes walk of the shops - 5 mins walk from the shambles.
I was able to sit in my bedroom window having a morning coffee watching the boats pass by on the river right outside.
We have already decided to stay again when the weather is better to enjoy the city and would definitely stay here again.
Staff, food, drinks and atmosphere was fantastic.
Yes they do have the bar open late Friday and Saturday night - yes you can hear the base of the music in the room....but we were honestly surprised how much it wasn't as loud as we expected.
They provide ear plugs but we didn't use them.

Cons:

I can honestly say nothing could be improved it was fantastic

The pillows felt were too soft. In most hotels they have a choice of 2 different pillows. The television was also a little slow

No thrills property
Pros:

Location of the property is ideal and only a short walk away from the center.
25% off drinks and food.
Nice pub during the day time.
Staff very friendly and welcoming.
Room size okay.

Cons:

Property was unclean and bed very uncomfortable.
Bathroom floor was filthy.
Fire door threshold incorrect as could see straight through and door damaged at the top thumb turn lock hanging on by a thread.
Skirting board missing in room.
Paper thin walls sadly could hear our neighbours at it all night.
Leaking windows and window did not stay open.
Rooms are above a bar which was expected to have high noise levels this was fine however when ventured down to the bar it was full of students and underage teens.

Pros:

Brilliant hotel. Ideally situated in the centre of York. Rooms are modern and clean. Staff are excellent, always going above and beyond to help. Not peak season at the minute so it is nice and quiet. I've had no issues with noise at all.

Cons:

Nothing! Would definitely recommend.

Great location but wouldn’t stay again
Pros:

Great location , friendly staff. Easy check in and out. Lots of towels . Warm room

Cons:

Very loud , music didn’t stop till 3am , poor bed , we left at 6am to go home and get some sleep. Very smelly bathroom. Lots of cobwebs.
