In need of rebranding
Pros:

Beautiful grounds wonderful buildings and great room

Cons:

NO English speaking staff except one young receptionist. The staff did not offer help as I old have expected. More like the old China instead of the new.

Don't stay in the remote North Building. Stick with the East Building.
Pros:

It was quiet, staff was polite, and the hotel was clean.

Cons:

I was placed in North building, which was a 10 minute walk from the East building. The North building was definitely more isolated, less well lit, and has much fewer staff. In fact, when I walked into the building, there was NO staff at the front desk. Luckily, I was accompanied by staff from the East building (I checked at the East building) who assured me the building was safe. I was assigned a room on the first floor, which didn't feel safe. In the morning, I had to meet people in the East building, and was told I would have to wait 10-15 minutes for a shuttle to the East building, so I decided to walk with luggage (outdoors) to the East building, which took about 10 minutes. This wouldn't have been an option if I weren't mobile or if it was raining.

Picturesque hotel with fabulous gardens / lake and superb sports facilities
Pros:

The grounds around the Dongjiao State Guest Hotel was exceptional - beautiful gardens and scenery around the lake, Gorgeous ! The room was very clean and the bed and pillows were super comfy. The staff always try to help where they can, thank you. The Sports Center is top notch with fabulous indoor tennis courts and proper size swimming pool. My driver from the airport (Eric) was so friendly and helpful.

Cons:

Perhaps more variety in restaurant offerings ?
