Hotel the Artist Dongdaemun

Front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was clean and comfortable. Location was ideal for transit and enjoying dongdaemun.

We were genuinely impressed with Hotel The Artist. Although it is a two-star hotel, the experience was much better than we expected.

The staff were absolutely wonderful — welcoming, friendly, patient and very helpful. We had an issue during our stay, and they went out of their way to understand and resolve it. Even when there was a language barrier, they patiently used a translation device to make sure they understood our needs. A special thank you to Lee, who was particularly helpful, professional and caring.

The room was comfortable and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

Overall, we had a lovely experience and felt very well looked after. Thank you to all the staff at Hotel The Artist for making our stay so enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again and happily recommend this hotel.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 - A hidden gem that punches well above its star rating

Don't let the 2-star rating fool you, Hotel The Artist would comfortably hold 4 stars by European standards. This place genuinely exceeded every expectation we had.

The room was comfortable, well-sized for a couple, and spotlessly clean throughout our entire stay. But what truly sets this hotel apart is the staff. Exceptionally friendly, always present, and genuinely accommodating in every sense of the word, nothing felt like too much to ask. The kind of service you rarely find even at much more expensive hotels.

The location deserves a special mention. If you want to be in the middle of the Myeong-dong tourist circus, this isn't your spot, and that's exactly why we loved it. Hotel The Artist sits in a calm, local neighbourhood in Seongbuk-gu where you feel like a resident rather than a tourist. The area is safe, authentic, and refreshingly free from crowds.

And yet, you are never far from anything. Sungshin Women's University subway station is just a short walk away, putting you on Line 4 with direct connections to Myeong-dong (4 stops), Bukchon Hanok Village, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and virtually everywhere else in Seoul within 15-20 minutes. We explored 15 different areas of Seoul from this base, from Gangnam to Hongdae to Insadong, and the location never once felt inconvenient.

Just around the corner is Happy Soyrice, a fantastic little local lunch spot we ended up visiting five times during our stay. That tells you everything about the neighbourhood.

We left Seoul with incredible memories, and Hotel The Artist was a big part of that. Warm, clean, affordable, and perfectly located for anyone who wants to experience the real Seoul rather than just the tourist version.
