A bit messy around property.

We checked in left our bags in the room and went straight out. We didn’t spend any time in the room after checking in. We had dinner by the seaside and only returned later that evening, which is when we realised the room had clearly not been cleaned properly. There was dust everywhere, cobwebs and even spiders in the room.

We immediately raised our concerns with the manager. He came into the room but instead of taking our complaint seriously, he dismissed everything we pointed out. When I showed him the spider in the bathroom, he simply picked it up with his hand and said, “I don’t see anything - the room is clean to me.” This was incredibly dismissive and unprofessional. The claim that we “caused a scene” is completely false. We remained calm and respectful throughout the entire conversation. We were staying at a pub with rooms, not a restaurant, so that accusation makes no sense. We were simply asking for the clean, hygienic room we had paid for. One of the staff members even told us they were short-staffed and that the manager had cleaned the room himself. If that’s true, it certainly explains the poor standard of cleanliness but it is not an acceptable excuse.

To suggest that we were only looking for a free stay is frankly insulting. We drove all the way from London to enjoy a relaxing break together. My fiancée and I had planned this trip to spend quality time together, not to deal with a dirty room and an unpleasant experience. Because of the condition of the room and the way our concerns were handled, our entire trip was ruined.

All we expected was the standard of cleanliness and customer service that any paying guest should receive. We can also provide evidence as we took photos. We even asked if we can swap rooms, i understand there’s no rooms left but this room is extremely unhygienic, I want a refund as we are not planning to stay here. The owner was very rude.

the hotel does not have parking, we had to park off-street a bit far from the hotel as the hotel is in the main road.

Everything.
We did not like our stay at all.

We couldn't find the reception. There is no reception at all.
When we arrived at the property, we realised that the accommodation was part of the bar.
There was not a single member of staff on site.

I tried calling the numbers on the website, but they were invalid.
Then, a very helpful gentleman bumped into us outside the building and said, "Are you looking for the hotel?"
I replied, "Yes." He literally saved us. We had been struggling to find anyone for 30-45 minutes.

Anyway, that gentleman, who works at the bar as a DJ called the manager, Danny, and said, "Your guests are here. Where are you?"
He was told that Danny was out in town and was instructed to show us to the room.

The room

I called him and said, "The blind is missing. There are no curtains, and nothing opposite our room except 4 flats. We won't have much privacy here."
He apologised and said, "Sorry, I didn't know about it, and right now I can't help."

Anyway, by early evening, he was at the property, and I showed him the missing blinds. He offered me a lean-to cover for the window, but it still didn't block the light, so we were woken up early.
