Beautiful seaside location with direct beach access, very comfortable and modern rooms, amazing and friendly staff, and a fantastic breakfast. The Thursday night sunset party is a lot of fun and a perfect way to enjoy the stay.
Stars for the comfortable bed, beautiful view, polite staff.
Not worth your money. Rooms are not soundproof at all which should be the bare minimum for a hotel such as this. We were able to hear people in the hallway going into their rooms - it sounded like they were opening our door. Receptions solution to the noise was to move us to a different room, but all the rooms have the same doors so we did not see how this would resolve the noise. No basic amenity kits, no door handle on the bathroom door that doesn’t close. Open wiring in the bathroom. All concrete is in dire need of a repaint, looks very weathered. Aircon drips constantly, so loud it woke me up and left a puddle in our room 2 nights in a row. Restaurant attached is mediocre, strange menu and ingredients don’t seem to be fresh, not worth paying the extra for breakfast as there are much nicer places nearby. They have DJs on a Thursday until 10:30pm, just an FYI you won’t be able to sleep until after 11pm realistically.
They ask you to pay a 50% deposit via a 3rd party platform 1 week before you stay and threaten to cancel your booking if you don’t. Felt like a scam! Horrible experience and I’ve never had this happen to me with a booking.com booking.
For the high season price we paid, we expected much better hospitality. As mentioned, the staff were nice, but the whole experience feels like it’s run by someone who has zero hospitality experience. It looks good in photos and a good location but the attention to detail is missing and the place is devoid of hospitality. It feels like a spot for the owners and their friends to hang out, rather than a hotel. Pretty disappointing experience all round.
Vibes are off, don’t come here if you want to relax, there are PLENTY of places in Ahangama that will give you the bare minimum of amenity kits , sound proof doors and a bathroom door that actually closes 😂
Excellent
The air freshener in the room made me cough. Everything else was excellent
Beachfront views, friendly staff, huge clean rooms, great service at the restaurant, not super busy and loud, comfy bed and couch. Stunning location!
Shower - the shower itself was beautiful but the temperature was one of the worst I’ve been in. You’d set it on a temp and it would take 2 mins to change and would go from cold to burning hot. Live music was quite loud so something to be mindful of on Friday and Sunday nights if you have kids they play until 9:30-10pm.
+ Really nice own beach and restaurant area
+ Staff was really friendly
+ Great views from the rooms
+ Good food and breakfast in the restaurant
- Nearby road noises you can hear all the time in the room
- Road nearby is quite busy with trafic so walking from the hotel anywhere does not feel really safe
That was probably my favorite hotel in Sri Lanka. The rooms were stunning, and the facilities and restaurant were excellent. Special thanks to Abhisheek and Dileep for taking such great care of me ☺️
Not really a downside, but I do wish they had informed me it was off-season and that there wouldn’t be any yoga classes or sound healing sessions when I messaged to pre-book it ahead of my visit.
The Hotel in Ahangama is truly a special place – the kind that stays with you long after you leave. From the very first day, it felt less like a hotel and more like a welcoming home by the ocean.
The owner, Elon, is an incredible host with a rare ability to make every guest feel genuinely cared for. Over the stay, Elon became not just a host but a dear friend, always present, warm, and attentive without ever being intrusive.
The restaurant, Alaia, is an absolute highlight. Shirani, the restaurant manager, runs it with so much heart and professionalism that every meal feels personal. The food is simply brilliant – fresh, vibrant, and beautifully prepared, with ingredients that truly shine. Breakfasts are best I had and the sunset cocktails are on another level: creative, perfectly balanced, and best enjoyed while watching the sky change colors. Shirani, like Elon, became a dear friend, and her warmth adds something truly special to the experience.
The rooms are very nicely designed – stylish, calm, and thoughtful – but also extremely practical. Everything makes sense, from the layout to the small details, making it easy to relax and feel comfortable right away.
Every few days, a DJ plays great house tunes, creating an effortless, relaxed atmosphere that fits perfectly with the rhythm of Ahangama. Add to that the excellent massages, which are deeply relaxing and professionally done, and you have a place that truly understands how to slow you down in the best possible way.
This is not just a hotel; it’s a place built on people, taste, and soul. Thank you, Elon and Shirani, for the friendship, the warmth and unforgettable stay. I will be back.

A perfect boutique hotel find in Ahangama – beautiful design, peaceful atmosphere, exceptional service, and an unforgettable stay by the ocean.
Localización, vistas, instalaciones modernas y limpias. Personal atento y amable. Desayuno incluido correcto, cantidad más escasa que en otros hoteles con desayuno incluido.
Aire acondicionado estropeado, personal pone remedio inmediatamente. Considero que el precio es elevado, para la oferta (más moderna y actualizada) que hay en la zona en constante crecimiento.
Friendly, welcoming reception staff.
Bright, clean, well-designed rooms.
The evening meal was excellent with a great atmosphere and tasty food.
Beachfront location makes it very easy to swim in the sea.
Basic check-in information (breakfast details, WiFi, laundry, yoga, etc.) was not proactively provided and had to be requested multiple times, with an over-reliance on WhatsApp instead of clear in-room information.
Significant noise from the busy road made it hard to sleep due to some front windows lacking glass on the top floor, and sound travelled easily through the corridors.
We were not informed about public beach parties hosted by the hotel, which affected our stay.
Food and drinks felt slightly overpriced, with menus in USD but payment taken in rupees.
Daytime music was too loud and not very relaxing.
Some small but frustrating details were overlooked (e.g. water provided in rooms without glasses).
Beachfront bean bags look nice but are uncomfortable.
