The location was the biggest highlight. It’s within walking distance of the railway station and several important places such as Sri Maha Bodhi and Jethavanaramaya, which made it very convenient for sightseeing. We travelled by train, so getting to the hotel was easy, and we could also use PickMe tuk-tuks to reach places that were a little further away.
We stayed in a triple room even though there were only two of us (my mother and me), so the room was spacious enough. It had one king-size bed, a single bed, two chairs, a bedside cupboard with an electric kettle, a small clothes rack and a small cupboard. There was also a wall-mounted mirror, although the reflective coating was slightly faded in the middle. The room was clean and had both AC and a ceiling fan. Basic amenities such as soap, tea, coffee, tea bags and small bottles of water were provided.
The lady running the place was very kind and helpful. She even came to our room and chased out a wasp when we told her about it. The homemade food was also very tasty and felt nice and homely.
The garden and surroundings also had a nice natural atmosphere. We spotted butterflies, squirrels and a cute stray dog, which made the place feel lively. Overall, it was a good place to stay if you mainly need a clean and comfortable room while spending your days exploring Anuradhapura.
There were quite a few mosquitoes, although this is understandable given the natural surroundings and isn’t really something I would blame the property for. It would have been nice, though, if mosquito repellent or mosquito nets had been provided, especially in the evenings.
The room itself was fairly average. The small cupboard was a little wobbly, so we didn’t use it. Since we had an extra bed, we simply used that space to keep our luggage. The garden also looked like it may have been better maintained previously, although the hot weather could have contributed to this.
Overall, I wouldn’t choose this place if I was looking for a hotel to spend a lot of time relaxing in, but for sleeping and exploring the surrounding sacred sites, it was a convenient and pleasant stay.
Location is near to the sacred places
Not arrange on time and they are not ready
No proper cleaning.
No sugar or tea bags.
Only soup no shampoo or any conditioner
No table and had a broken cupboard.
Un cleaned bedsheets and dirty.
AC is not properly working.
This is not recommended for use as a hotel. This is just stay for a Vishrama shala. No worth for the paid.
Friendliness
Stuffy room
Molt a prop de la ciutat sagrada
La habitació no estava neta, hi havia tota mena d’animals i insectes. Roba de llit i tovalloles tenien taques. Ens volien cobrar extra per el mando del aire acondicionat.
Ideal location near all the main highlights ,Train station close by, Sweet and friendly female staff, Breakfast made and served with love, Tasty homemade snacks, Everything within easy reach
The location couldn’t be better truly perfect. All the main sights are just around the corner, and the train station is only a short walk away, which made getting around super easy.
The ladies on the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. Every morning, breakfast was made and served with care you could really feel the love in it. I was even surprised with some tasty homemade snacks in between.
It’s a place where everything just feels right: convenience, comfort, and warmth.
Highly recommended if you want to explore the city with ease and feel genuinely cared for.
- the place from the very first moment
- the staff
- the food
- the bed
- the silent AC
- the location
- the everything
- no sound insulation
- uncatchable cheeky mosquito
The location is very quiet place!
It isn't worth the price, I expected something better. The shower needs to be renovated, and the sink faucet was faulty
Close to the railway station and the western entrance to the old city/ruins.
We didn’t notice in the first place (only when we had to rearrange the sheets): the mattress was moldy/had fungus - that’s a no go.
Liked the location. Good Air con. Internet patchy.
The people running the hotel were lovely like the many people we've crossed paths with so far in Sri Lanka.
Lots of birds and wildlife around the hotel. I'd stay there again.
The guest house is in close proximity to the train station as well as the entrance to the Sacred City. Friendly hosts, varied breakfast, nice rooms
We chose the location for proximity to the entrance to the historic sites and, especially, to the railway station (as we had an early-morning departure); we expected to just have to tolerate the usual disadvantages of a railway station location. We were pleased, however, to find that the hotel environment is not at all what you'd expect from that kind of location: set among grand old homes (some gradually decaying but still interesting to stroll past and imagine what they were once like) on large blocks with an abundance of vegetation. The hotel itself fits in well with these homes, and is very nicely maintained... and they keep pet dogs (a 'plus' if you're a dog lover, as I am). It all made for a very relaxing time!
