I liked that it was somewhat close to everything by 20 min walk. It was private and the beds were mostly clean. I was also very thankful for the hostel owner for allowing me to sleep in after an uncomfortable night. It is also cheap compared to other options.
When I arrived the elderly woman was trying to explain everything in Portuguese. That's usually not a problem for me because I have a translation app, however even after explaining how the translation app worked 4 times, she would always not say a word when I held my phone near her mouth. And immediately after I moved the phone away she would burst into many sentences explaining something. It drove me insane. I tried to explain not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times how to use the translation app. All she had to do was talk. Later, when she wanted me to wait a few minutes for her son to come over, she spoke perfectly into the app. So that meant she was screwing with me because she knew how to use the app all along! Anyway, this is a minor detail but very frustrating. She's an otherwise very sweet woman I'm sure. My main issue with this place is that while some of the beds are ok, there are others that are very worn out. I'm talking about the one in the bottom bunk. And furthermore 3 bunks on top of each other in a standard height room is too short. In the bottom bunk, you can't even sit up. Imagine submarine bunks. That's minor compared to the condition of the mattress itself. It's worn out so it feels like your butt is sinking in. It was very uncomfortable and luckily other beds were open so I could sleep more comfortably in a non-worn out bed. The biggest issue I have is that the kitchen is kind of grimy. Stuff works and there are appliances, but every dish was dirty and one of the pots even had mold growing in it. Not just a tiny bit. The entire inner lip of the pot was covered in mold colonies. It was disgusting and I couldn't believe that I had to clean out these dirty plates from god knows when. They clearly do not care about cleanliness in the kitchen. It feels very neglected. Also the pictures feature nice chairs and stuff, but that's probably all stuff inside the owner's house.

A localização é ótima, bem no centro de petrópolis. Não tem mais nada de bom nesse lugar.
As toalhas estavam sujas, lençol com manchas, não nos deixaram levar as chaves do quarto, tivemos que deixar numa estante aberta, quarto individual tinha uma porta como separação que deixava a luz passar e todo o barulho, muita poeira, não podíamos deixar a janela aberta por que pediram para fechar. No fim pedimos para deixar nossas malas lá para que pudéssmos almoçar antes de ir e não deixaram. Pagamos 500 reais na diária e me arrependo muito. Não volto e não recomendo a ninguém
