OK under the circumstances
Pros:

This was the only hotel near the train station and that is why we stayed here. The room was clean and spacious.

Cons:

With the exception of the owner, the staff were quite unfriendly and initially did not confirm they even had our booking. The hotel entrance is a bit of a building site and the lift is still under construction.

Raxaul!!! Border lands Oasis
Pros:

Everything about this hotel was fantastic. Friendly staff and although there was construction 🚧 happening they did their utmost to keep the hotel clean and quiet as possible. The restaurant was one of the best in India.

Cons:

No access to alcohol but that's ok. The entrance to hotel is through a public right of way that belies the oasis within the hotel. The local council (if there is one) needs to clean up the access. Raxaul is pretty shabby but there's some great shops.

Close to the border for crossing to Nepal (5-10 mins tiktuk, 10-15 mins walk)
Wifi reliability reasonable
Owner/manager had excellent English, which I've found very unusual in Indian hotels.
Attached cafe was good although I did look into kitchen on the way out and it was filthy.

Cons:

Very poor overall standards, hotel still being built combined with a huge building site right outside front door so lots of dust and rubbish.
Extremely basic rooms (I had two as the first one had bugs on the bed). Manager initially asked for more money when I asked to move but I refused and was moved anyway. Second room was bigger but still filthy, ripped sheets with holes, very mouldy pillows in both rooms, dirty curtains, basic furniture fittings poorly constructed.
Second bedroom had a hotel utility room attached for washing!
Considerably below European standards.
Also, dogs outside barked all night and the train station is also just outsude so train horns going off every few minutes right through the night. Zero sleep had unfortunately with mouldy pillows removed and all the noise. Also no towels at all in room.

It was pleasant for one night
Pros:

The room was spacious and the staff was helpful and accommodating. They even ordered us dinner as we came late.

Cons:

Maybe it was a mistake and they left a balcony door open earlier, but the room was full of mosquitos. It made our stay uncomfortable as we were bitten. I choose to believe it would not happen on a regular basis though.

Kudos to the owner.
Pros:

Mr. Agrawal(the owner of the property )on just a call visited personally and ensured safe and soothing stay of my family. I was not there with them yet I felt that they are in safe hands.
He also ensured their hassle free further travel.

Cons:

There was nothing to dislike.

Pros:

Nice place to stay. Very near to Railway Station and main Market of Raxaul. Nepal is just 10 mins. Walk away from Hotel. Bathroom size was exceptionally big.

Exceptional
Pros:

The location is very close to the Raxaul border, making it easier to go to Birgunj and come back.
Very close to the Railway station.
They gave us one room on complimentary upgrade even without any request from our side.
The owner was present and managing things personally
Lastly the hospitality given by the uncle at reception was amazing.

Cons:

In house food facility services is no
yet to start.
