Good location, wonderful staff, and a great view to match.
Facilities, food, onsen
Hard bed
Ski in and ski out, excellent location for other dinner spot, mountain coffee and lunch. A second breakfast option by having the coffee shop inside is great if the buffet isn’t for you.
I travelled there with three friends for a week, originally booked into a quad room which we found out after booking had no shower facility, so I booked a second quad room, which was one floor lower with a hugh shower for less that the original day rate for the quad with no bathing facilities?, so read the room discription carefully before booking unless you enjoy having to use the busy public bath open to anyone on the lower floor. Other than the location to the ski field and that the buses to Iiyama train station stop at the front of the hotel it was very average. The hire shop in the hotel has good snowboard hire gear at industry prices. The cafe near the hire shop has the best coffee in the area. There are a reasonable selection of dinning options outside the hotel if you become bored with the three inhouse options which aren't cheap, but the out side one are little better and very had to book in advance. I highly recommend the small family run crepe shop down the road to the right of the hotel 200m past the ski school, one of the best value feeds we had on the trip, limited indoor seating, but you will not leave hungry and try a desert crepes.
At the end of the day when everyone comes in from the field the public bath (onsen) facilities can be very busy, so if you like sitting on a very low stool trying to wash your hair with no actual shower above sitting hieght, more floor height with dozens of naked men this place is for you. If you really want to feel violated try th RED Tricycle Tacos (picture attached) down the hill, here you can get two 'taster" size (one month full) soft tacos with minimal filling for A$20, then move on to find a meal because you will have to spend a lot $ to get full there, plenty of good burge shops up the hill. There is no 7 Eleven at Madarao Kogen so stock up before you come up, because the one small convenience store in town has a limited range, but better than the one in the hotel. Some site imply that the hotel is ski out, ski in, out yes in the broad sense but not in. I don't hold the hotel responsible for the weather or amount of snow, but beware the resort does not groom the upper sections of the runs which are mostly black runs, so are no good for snowboading unless you like hundreds of ice moguls from skiers on a very steep slope to access the better groomed red and green runs.
Amazing view from bedroom window in 5 floor looking out to mountain. Clean rooms. Great breakfast and dinner- made it very easy. Onsen was lovely too. Secure location for skis and boots. Being able to send skis on to airport made onwards travel easier.
Potential improvements, but not an issue. A communal area to sit inside before cafe opened. A drying room on days when wet. Overall a really great location and hotel.
I like that it was ski-in ski-out
Creepy Buddha statue in onsen and weird pillows in rooms
Best location for ski in and ski out
A bit of outdated
Great ski in ski out hotel. Great staff always helpful. Good value for money stay.
Facilities and Rooms are a bit dated
super gelegen, gleich bei der Skipiste.
Top organisiert mit Skiraum und eigenem Schrank. Sehr schönes und sauberes Onsen
etwas harte Kissen
Location - The hotel is ski in ski out. You can board down to the bus of the mountain and there’s a lift that can take you from the base of the mountain back up. The hotel is easy to get to from the Shinkansen station.
There was ice melting outside and you could hear a constant drop all night.
Ski in ski out, rentals and onsen onsite. Great food options. Staff brilliant.
We had a fantastic stay! The ski area and rental shop are right nearby, and the onsen was beautiful. Delicious meals, kind staff, and easy access from the station made it even better. Our room was spacious and comfortable.
The location for Madarao skiing cannot be beaten. It is a large hotel with a convenience store, ski locker room, rental gear, and a kids playroom which was really good for our kids (2 and 3yo). We had three different reservations in our group, and they were able to place our rooms close together. The rooms were quiet and didn't hear any outside noise.
There are limited food options if you aren't skiing and don't have a car. There are two dinner options within the hotel, however the buffet is about $50 per person, and Restaurat Brian has a limited menu. The beds were very hard.
The best location for skiing, an amazing selection for the buffet breakfast and dinner, super helpful staff, and great facilities.
A great location with friendly staff. Comfortable rooms.
No options for different diets at the dinner or breakfast. Refused to provide non-dairy milk which was disappointing considering everywhere else in town had other options. If they provided a non-dairy option then we could have eaten the breakfast.
