Amba Lodge Lalibela

An absolutely wonderful place to stay in Lalibela. The location is perfect - comfortable accommodation within walking distance of the main sights, yet tucked away in a peaceful spot. Wake up to a stunning view of the mountains and the valley below, where every morning you can watch local herders driving their goats down to the market. It feels like a scene from another century.
Practical comforts are all there: fast WiFi, a proper comfortable bed, and a hot shower - nothing taken for granted at this altitude.
But the real reason to book here is Gashaw, the owner. He is simply exceptional. Want to visit the ancient rock-hewn churches? He handles everything - airport transfer, entrance tickets, a knowledgeable guide, logistics. You just show up. Trust him completely and you will not be disappointed.

Замечательное место для проживания в Лалибеле. Уютное и тихое жильё, расположенное рядом с главными достопримечательностями. По утрам открывается потрясающий вид на горы и долину, где местные жители гонят коз на рынок — картина, словно из другого века.
Всё необходимое есть: быстрый WiFi, удобная кровать и душ с горячей водой - то, что особенно ценишь на такой высоте.
Но главная причина остановиться именно здесь - это Гашав, хозяин гостиницы. Он просто великолепен. Хотите посетить древние церкви, вырубленные в скалах? Он берёт на себя всё: трансфер из аэропорта, входные билеты, гид, логистика. Вам остаётся только приехать. Доверьтесь ему полностью - не пожалеете.

Ik had een geweldige ervaring in Amba Lodge. Ik had wegens tijdtekort maar één nacht in Lalibela geboekt, maar had er graag wat bijgedaan. De uitbater heeft me zelf rond de rotskerken van Lalibela geleid en heb dankzij hem heel veel kunnen bijleren. Een echte aanrader dus!

De accommodatie heeft ook een geweldig zicht over het landschap van Lalibela en ze hebben ook een terras waar je er lokaal of westers kan eten.

We had an amazing time staying as a family of three at Amba Lodge. After travelling in Ethiopia for nearly two weeks already, we stayed a couple of nights with the aim to slow down a bit and recover. Amba lodge delivered. It is a small guesthouse run by Gashaw and his family and they made us feel welcome and well looked after from the first to the last minute. We enjoyed the very familiar atmosphere, the great location close to the churches of Lalibela and the host's intimate knowledge of the area. (Of course,) we also hired Gashaw as our guide for most of the time in Lalibela, visiting the churches and for a hike from monastery to monastery. Coming home felt like coming home, the home cooked food was excellent and our coffee ceremony a highlight every time. We would come back any time again. For us, it was what we were looking for and the perfect stay and base for the area.

The location is perfect if you want to see the historic churches in Lalibela. Hot water, gorgeous view & great breakfast (fresh fruit from the hotel's garden & local produce)

眺望が最高で、部屋も綺麗、コストも安いです。
治安の問題で夜は出歩かないことが前提のエリアのため、夕食は必然的にホテルで取ることになります。その点、こちらは食事が美味しいうえに、値段も周辺のレストランと同じかそれより安いです。
日本人には少し慣れない味のインジェラも、こちらでは美味しくいただけます。

また、オーナーも元ガイドとのことで、親切にこちらの過ごし方の相談にも乗ってくれました。

My stay at the Amba Hotel was amazing. The view from the room was incredible, it almost felt unreal how beautiful it was 🥰 The staff were also very helpful and friendly.

Amba was perfect for a quick solo trip to Lalibela. The rooms are spacious and clean, and with balconies providing amazing views of the area. Also, the star viewing at night is breathtaking.

Gashaw is a true asset for this place. He creates an open atmosphere in the dining area that makes it easy to interact with the other guests over meals. He also was a perfect tour guide for visiting the churches, and extremely knowledgeable about the entire area.

I would not hesitate to stay at Amba again!

Excellent hosts, food was great and the view is amazing

The place is beautifull, rooms are spacious and have amazing view to watch the sunset over the mountains.
Gashaw is an amazing host, and makes you feel more like you are hosted at a friend's rather than hotel.
And because the man has many skills, take him as guide to visit the churches.
