Virkelig hyggeligt ophold - god service og flinke ansatte. Lidt slidt - men charmen overskyggede dette.
This is a beautiful and historic building and we really enjoyed our stay. In places it is looking a little tired and we got the impression that the owners are in an interim period while they decide whether to invest what is needed to turn it back into the stunning luxury hotel that it could be, but in fact we very much enjoyed the slightly faded elegance. The pool was great and the birds and other wildlife in the grounds were impressive. Peacocks preparing to roost on the roof with a stunning sunset as a backdrop was a highlight. Food was good and although the place seemed a little understaffed, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. For us it was not an issue being a little out of town and we enjoyed the relative peace and quiet.
It waqs a shamne that for some reason the bar has been closed down, but there was no problem with us bringing in our own drinks.
The staff are excellent in a very nice setting. Breakfast was enormous and tasty. The room was perfect, with a lovely bathroom. All we needed for comfort
There is no bar, but plenty of ice to cool your own drinks.
The pool area needs some work as only 4 sunbeds which isn’t enough and surrounding area is a bit shabby
The hotel is an old colonial building and it is proud of its heritage. The staff take great pride in the building.
We’ve just had a 6 day stay and couldn’t fault the hotel. Beds are comfortable and the rooms and bathroom are a generous size and of a good quality.
At the moment they don’t have a drinks license but they encourage guests to buy and drink they’re own alcohol anywhere in the hotel and provide glasses , ice, ice buckets and else you need to drink comfortably during your stay.
The staff are wonderful especially Ramindu, Keshawa, Rohitha and Ranjith.
The breakfast was great, although the choice was a little limited but the evening meals were excellent and very large portions.
We particularly liked the peace and variety of birds and wildlife walking round the traditional gardens. A great place to relax and recharge after a busy tour of Sri Lanka within a easy Tuk Tuk ride to Galle port and the nearby beach.
Nothing, would love to visit again
It is a beautiful colonial building with a lovely pool
There is no way this is a 5 star property, it would struggle to get 2 stars. There was a complete lack of staff present so we resorted to finding the managers office to ask for towels for our room and then pool towels. The pool area is completely neglected with only 3 working sun loungers with no pads, tables or parasols When we went to eat there was food available but from a scruffy menu, the outside tables were not laid so we ate in the empty soulless restaurant. The hotel does not have a drinks licence so we were offered juice or water. We opted for water which came in tepid bottles with no ice. There were frequent power cuts during the night. The outside bar was completely neglected and firmly closed with used glasses left on the tables throughout our stay and the chairs in a horrible state
Tamarind Hill is a heritage property set in lush tropical landscape, evoking echoes of the past. Many of the original features of this impressive Dutch manor house, are still intact and there to admire. Their suites are absolutely vast and sensational in proportion, whilst the other rooms have been created in keeping with the architectural style. The staff were extremely friendly and the pool was an absolute asset to the property. We had one very pleasant dinner on the first night and enjoyed the Sri Lankan curries....We found going in and out of Galle very easy as it only took around 5 to 8 mins by car. It was a memorable experience to stay at Tamarind Hill.
The location and the characteristic of the property was quite good.
It doesn’t have a fully functional kitchen, breakfast and meal were very ordinary, rather sub par, considering the price charged per room.
The rooms are very old, even mobile phone charging was a struggle.
We arrived at 05:30 in the morning without advance notice and were received with a service that exceeded every expectations. They prepared our room right away so we could get a few hours of sleep before check in time . A great service that continued for the rest of the week.
Nothing really.
Great breakfast
Nice place, very cosy, spacious room
No pedestrian access to the city center
Nulla
This serene and tucked-away property strikes the perfect balance—ideally located for exploring the charm of Galle in the afternoons and evenings, yet nestled in a peaceful setting that feels wonderfully removed from the bustle. Our room was tastefully furnished and exceptionally comfortable, while the communal areas were beautifully maintained, evoking the warmth and intimacy of a private home rather than a typical hotel.
A small note for future guests: the property doesn’t hold an alcohol license, so you may wish to bring your own if desired.
All in all, it was a tranquil, intimate, and truly memorable stay—one that exceeded all our expectations.
