Location and surroundings
We were staying in the Grange, an Annex which although ok was Tired and in need of refurbishment. The room was cold and window left open! - so we had to shut it and turn up heating! the Bathroom was acceptable but Extractor fan didn't work well, so full of condensation.
Breakfast started well, however the Gluten Free Bread (Which we advised in advance) was late and shown heat not toasted, the Poached Eggs ordered with Toast were perfect but toast arrived 5 minutes later!
Breakfast Coffee Machines both not working
The main building and gardens are beautiful from the outside, but inside it is basic and tired. The rooms are in a separate building that is a good walk or a short drive from the main house. They are purpose built (at a guess 1970’s), and in desperate need of maintenance. The distance is a pain (especially if raining) if you intend to eat or have a drink as the restaurant/bar is in the main house. The hotel is woefully understaffed, the restaurant food was distinctly average, the breakfast buffet was cold, no fresh coffee, just individual Nescafé sachets and a hot water urn
The main building from the outside looks great
Clean hotel with good food.
Deluxe rooms were tiny, as were the beds. I won't even mention the shower cubicle!! Overbearingly hot even with no heating on. Windows were painted closed so couldn't be opened. No view as promised, only roofs of all the added on parts of the hotel. Only one fan in the whole hotel which was already given out. Events took over the whole hotel, so if you were staying in the hotel during an event it was a nightmare! Noisy, rude and no regard for anyone else!! An event every day we were staying.
Didn’t have the breakfast
The main house was lovely to stay in, but we were only put there after refusing to stay in the grange no 2.
The grange 2 , carpark looked like a dumping area, the grange 2 itself was to a very low standard, didn’t look clean. Massive hole in the skylight blind and when I rang reception and said we would refuse to stay here. She instantly said it wasn’t an issue we could have a room in the house. This is our third visit and would not stay anywhere except the house.
The property.
The annex. Breakfast room performance.
Beautiful house in stunning grounds. A fantastic setting. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom clean, and cleaning service was good. I stayed in The Grange, which is an Annex, about a quarter of a mile away from the Main House, reached by car and with its own parking area. There are conference facilities in The Grange, with accommodation upstairs, but there are no staff present.
The annex Grange is a quarter of a mile from the Main House, with its own car park. There are conference facilities here, but the reception desk was unmanned throughout my stay, so it felt abandoned. A pile of food rubbish lay on the reception desk and it remained there for three days. There was no fire evacuation plan in the room. The rooms are all upstairs and reached via a staircase (only).
There was no one on reception upon arrival. I had to walk around the hotel for 20 minutes to find anyone. The pillows in the bedroom were unbelievably hard, like a block of wood and there was absolutely no hot water at all. I had a freezing shower and my daughter couldn’t even have one. We had an empty shampoo bottle left for us and no tea bags at all. The decor in the room was not in keeping with the style of the building. I have been offered a 50% and it needs to be sorted through Booking.com
Fabulous location and beautiful building
The 2 mattresses in the Grange room 47 were awful and urgently need replacing. My mattress offered no support and I could feel the springs
The settling was lovely with lovely gardens. There was lots of parking.
Breakfast was passable. Continental was poor with not much choice. Cooked breakfast was fair but not great. Couldn't find any Decafe coffee/tea. Our room was in need of an overhaul. Carpet was stained & there were lots of marks on the walls. The bathroom was in need of work with some of the floor tiles lifted/loose & some in pieces. The shower needed a deep clean.
Everywhere you looked in the hotel there is some form of maintenance required which is a shame as the building is magnificent & in a fantastic setting.
The grounds and main house were beautiful, bed was very comfy, very good breakfast
arrived 10 minutes before check in and room wasn't ready, which was fine, but still wasn't ready by 3.30pm, which was frustrating as we had an event to attend at 5.45pm, which didn't leave us a great deal of time to get ready once we arrived to our room. We went to the bar area while we waited and there was not a member of staff in sight, we waited 20 minutes to be served, after asking reception several times for a member of bar staff to help us. We stayed in the Grange rooms, nice but a bit outdated, and stiflingly hot, there was a fan in the room but didn't help at all, no windows to open, only a door, but would not sleep with a ground floor door wide open! Check out was difficult, the member of staff on reception was rude and did not know how to provide a VAT receipt for my whole booking. Called reception to ask for glasses and ice but they said they could not do this. One of our guests rooms shower was faulty, so she had to shower in a colleagues room
We came for the reviews of the food...
We were not informed when booking that there would be a limited menu and basic items like steak were not available. We were polite and understanding all the way up to the point where the "waitress" asked me 3 times if the drinks tasted okay, then after refusing to accept my answer asked me if I just had "resting b!#ch face". I would like to also point out we were the only people in the restaurant at this time, so quickly ordered food out of the 6 choices we had, ate and left. We had ordered extra cocktails but they were clearly made incorrectly or with an unshaken mixer (at this point we thought maybe on purpose) we left them and decided to head back to the room as I was extremely upset and uncomfortable at this point.
The facilities are shocking to say the least, the entire building was unmanaged, unmanned and unkept. Dirty, poorly laid out with zero security or safety. Then top off the whole experience after an awful night's sleep... The limescale covered shower was freezing cold. We wish we had stayed at home with the kids instead of trying to enjoy some time away in a nice surrounding. Would 100% recommend any Travelodge over this place for the money.
When walking over to the manor house in the evening on the first night for dinner I had the company of one of locals.
A very tall fella with antlers he walked halfway up the drive with me before going off across the lawns.
The young lady in the restaurant was great during the evening meal. Very attentive and seemed genuinely interested in my work and how my stay was going. Can't remember her full name but it began with an S. She is a credit to the hotel.
Booked a double room, but was given a twin. The beds were very small, but as I was only there for one night I didnt ask to change room.
On checkout I was given the wrong rooms invoice (with the other customers name and address on), as I had paid on arrival, I only realised this when I checked it once I left. I contacted the hotel and they emailed me the correct version.
location, surroundings, space
There was a note in bathroom that water takes 15mins to heat up.
