While Cambodian rural architecture has been extensively studied by leading researchers, they found the sad fact is that traditional housing has been disappearing at a too fast pace from the countryside and, obviously, from urban development.
At Dontrei Villa Angkor, we love these houses. Because they tell us of the Cambodian past, of the cleverness and humility of the past generations. Because they are things of beauty, harmoniously blending into their natural environment – sit on the balcony of any of our houses and you’ll get the feeling. And because they are surprisingly adapted to modern life, with the wooden walls gently absorbing the day heat, and releasing it at dusk.
Dontrei Villa Angkor founder and director Davy Chan, along with husband Ly and a team of carpenters, has rescued and repurposed some nine traditional houses since 2019. Some of the houses are from over 30-year old to 160-year old Cambodian traditional houses.
Gently dismantling these time-honored structures, moving them with care to our grounds, redesigning them while keeping their harmonious proportions, replacing damaged timber and roof tiles: this is a labor we undertake with our heart.

I loved it...and will go back.
Pros:

I loved my stay at Dontrei Villa Angkor. The rooms, gardens and swimming pool were all beautiful, and the staff were lovely. The food was fairly average, but everything else was wonderful.

It is a little outside Siem Reap, but that was one of the things I liked most—it was incredibly peaceful and quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Bungalow avec 2 chambres, terrasse et piscine privées sans compter la cuisine au rdv donc de l’espace / Construction à la cambodgienne (traditionnel/sur pilotis) / dans un environnement très verdoyant - très calme car éloignement du tumulte de la ville de Siem Reap / équipement correct / très très propre / piscine privée propre et agréable / restauration bonne malgré peu de diversité pour les boissons fruitées.

Cons:

Environnement un peu trop fermé : pas de vue notable sur l’extérieur, sur la campagne.

My partner and I stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. The location is beautiful and incredibly peaceful, strongly reminding us of Bali-style villas. Huge respect to the owners for preserving the cultural heritage of this place. Our room was beautiful, spotless, and very spacious. The territory is well-maintained and regularly treated for insects, which is a huge plus. It is very quiet here. While it’s not right in the center, you can easily get there in 10-15 minutes by tuk-tuk. There is a restaurant on-site, but you can also easily order delivery straight to the villa—everything arrives fresh and fast.

Het personeel was super gastvriendelijk en behulpzaam. Daarbij was het verblijf ontzettend mooi!

Cons:

De accomodatie was niet helemaal ‘afgesloten’ bij de muren waardoor er veel beestjes binnen kwamen. Gelukkig kregen we wel een fijne klamboe die de beestjes buiten het bed hield.

Paradiso in Angor Wat.

Abbiamo soggiornato 2 notti in una villa con piscina privata. La camera era fantastica, non potevamo desiderare di meglio. Anche la struttura è veramente bella, immersa nel verde con 2 piscine comuni. Dista circa 15 minuti dal centro. Staff molto gentile. Possibilità di esplorare la zona con i loro driver, per risparmiare e per aiutare anche i lavoratori locali. In particolare raccomando Sarath che ci ha portato in giro, fantastico.
