While Cambodian rural architecture has been extensively studied by leading researchers, they found the sad fact is that traditional housing has been disappearing at a too fast pace from the countryside and, obviously, from urban development.
At Dontrei Villa Angkor, we love these houses. Because they tell us of the Cambodian past, of the cleverness and humility of the past generations. Because they are things of beauty, harmoniously blending into their natural environment – sit on the balcony of any of our houses and you’ll get the feeling. And because they are surprisingly adapted to modern life, with the wooden walls gently absorbing the day heat, and releasing it at dusk.
Dontrei Villa Angkor founder and director Davy Chan, along with husband Ly and a team of carpenters, has rescued and repurposed some nine traditional houses since 2019. Some of the houses are from over 30-year old to 160-year old Cambodian traditional houses.
Gently dismantling these time-honored structures, moving them with care to our grounds, redesigning them while keeping their harmonious proportions, replacing damaged timber and roof tiles: this is a labor we undertake with our heart.

Beautiful oasis
Pros:

Beautifully designed resort, creative, colourful. Like a little oasis with a pool and wayervfeature. Room was beautiful, good facilities and massive bed. Staff were very helpful as we arrived at 5.30 a.m and checked out at 5.pm the next day and they made us comfortable. Highly Recommend.

Cons:

Nothing. A way out of town but grab tuktuks are easy and we liked being in a quieter more rural area.

Pros:

I picked this place for the unique vibe, nature, and for being away from the noise and hassling of the city. It perfectly did its job! Couldn't have picked a better place in SR. The vibe is just so calming, the place is beautiful and comfy, and the food is great. They also have tuc tuc service always available, so they can take you anywhere you want at any time.

Cons:

Nothing bad. Sometimes the staff wouldn't perfectly understand English, but that's totally normal anywhere in SR.

I love the preservation and restoration efforts by the owner to restore original Khmer houses and repurpose into very comfortable accommodation. The grounds have also been beautifully planted. I felt like I had stepped into an oasis. The staff are also so welcoming and lovely.

The food was fantastic!! Seriously, the Amok and Khmer delight for dessert...YES! The overall stay was perfect minus all the frogs in my bathroom...but hey it is to be expected in that environment, and the staff removed them when I told them. The pool was nice, the ambience and peacefulness of the property is great! The tuk tuk driver is very nice as well and lives near the property, which is convenient.

Cons:

The activities they offer are expensive. I found deals on my own as a solo traveler, even private options as well with a lower cost. But no real complaints because I figured it all out!
