A uniquely wonderful stay with amazing food and exceptional service!
Pros:

Ryokan Roka was a perfect stay and experience during our time in Naoshima. The food was a highlight and we loved both dinners, each being a unique menu prepared specifically for that night with fresh ingredients and beautiful preparation and flavors. The service, the serenity, the room and sitting areas were all heavenly. My daughter and I agree that this was some of the most incredible food we had during our 12 days in Japan. In addition, we loved the design and attention to every detail. Ryokan Roka is in a perfect location for exploring every art destination and we were able to walk everywhere. There is a lovely shuttle bus and driver available for pick ups and drop offs from and to the ferry and at the end of our long day of exploring.

I really want to come back…
Pros:

Simply amazing. What a place. The rooms are a dream, the bath area and adjacent terrace all in wood is so beautiful. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast is incredibly good. Staff is top notch, they all go the extra mile and smile to really take care of you. Everything is close to this Ryokan and bikes available.

A clean modern spot to enjoy artwork exhibits but lacks a sense of home and comfort.
Pros:

It was very zen and clean and modern. The restaurant was great and offered a super interesting cuisine. Cool art light exhibit in the rock garden

Cons:

The in room bath was super small. It needed to be 2-3 feet wider and longer. There was no space in the hotel to relax or have a cocktail. The lobby felt like a transitional space so it missed the ability to function as a lounge. They made a fire pit which would be great but shut it down at 9pm so with dinner, there was no way to use it.
