Overall - very poor...
Pros:

Staff were very friendly and helpful - but didn't know how to serve a beer (ice in glass instead of chilling before serving!)
Ability to 'hire' a vehicle and driver from the hotel for the day.

Cons:

No lift!
'Included' breakfast was very poor. 1 egg and rice, 1 coffee and 1 lemon juice drink, plus (at random) - fish OR corned beef OR ham OR tocino (all very small portions) - anything more cost extra!!!
Lighting in room was badly organised - no switches near bed, so had to navigate room in pitch black after switching off lights!
Lots of strange electrical/machinery noises in room (aircon???).

Horrible Horrible Stay.
Cons:

The place is very dirty, the AC is not working, sheets have blood stains, floors have so much hair from previous guess, dead cockroach everywhere, also the black out curtain is so dusty, Plus this property is not even accessible, you have to go through very tight dirt roads to get to the property. The place looks cute in the pictures but in reality, it’s just so dirty, humid and hot since their AC doesn’t work. I’d rather spend more to get to a decent place than this.

Still comfortable but not the great place it once was.
Pros:

Beds are still so so comfortable, the majority of the room is very clean and well presented.

The AC works well to cool the room.

Nice big TV to watch shows on.

The check-in/check-out process is very fast and easy. Food for breakfast was decent.

Cons:

The place is looking quite a bit beat up since the last few visits. The staff were nice but didn't seem to have the motivation or spark I remember from before which made me a bit sad to see as the staff made this place great before.

Water for the showers and sinks kept spluttering instead of a steady flow of water. This was very annoying but I understand it may be water supply issues.

Shower wall and doors a bit dirty. Doors not secure as ours wouldn't lock properly without pulling shut very hard (might be an issue if you are not a strong person). Door gaps allow for many mosquitos and other insects to come in all the time. Just couldn't seem to avoid getting bitten multiple times due to this.

No convenience store on ground floor anymore.

I really wish the best for the staff there at the hotel and hope it is able to pick up again.

Extremely Disappointed as we are doing some hotel hopping to recommend it to our friends and family
Pros:

We were asked about our preference for breakfast and lo and behold, nothing was served.
Why bother ask? If you will not serve it anyway.

Cons:

Noticed a strand of hair in one of the pillow. Dusty corners of the room. Toilet has no tissue. The handheld bidet sprayer is broken. Toilet bowl is stained. No toilet brush. The toilet bowl looks like being used even after flushing. Water is leaking at the proximal area of the hose. Cabinet is broken. Mirror is stained. Duvet cover is ripped.

Probably the best place in Tagum !
Pros:

I can dismiss all it's faults....and there are indeed a few ,because the staff are all so lovely,friendly and helpful. I have returned for a second stay ...that only ever happens if i am 99% happy / content from my first stay. Any problem they will do their utmost best to address in as short a time as possible. Just don't hesitate to ask. I am i guess a fussy Englishman but i make allowances for the fact i am not in Europe. This is NOT an international ' chain ,' hotel. It is a local independent and while they may not have got everything right,it has a certain charm. There is a rooftop pool. It is clean !!!....if a little small,but i have seen smaller. I checked reviews for other accomodation in Tagum and decided on Shine. It was a good decision. I rarely give reviews or recommendations.

Cons:

Noisy water pump vibrates through hotel.

Quite good for the price
Pros:

Rooms are big enough, with fridge and kettle. Comfortable bad. Staff was fine. Decent location in Tagum, not hard to find with google maps. Simple breakfast can be served to the room if u ask for it.

Cons:

Need to clean aircons in some of the rooms
