I just had the best stay at Kleivstua in Sundvollen! It’s a magical spot that feels so far away but is only an hour from Oslo—perfect for an authentic Norwegian getaway.
The moment I arrived, I felt the history. My room was located in a charming red building that had once been a mountain farm, and it was extremely cozy and clean. The staff were fantastic—friendly yet professional, which made everything feel welcoming. And there are so many rooms to explore in the main building!
I missed dinner, but I heard the food was great! Breakfast was delicious, especially making my own Norwegian waffle. The views were stunning, and I loved hiking, especially at King’s View (Kongens Utsikt). Honestly, one night isn’t enough; a couple of days is ideal. I’ve already decided I’m going back!
I do think the 10 AM check-out is a bit too early, given the number of things to enjoy. An 11 AM or 12 PM check-out would be ideal, allowing guests to enjoy a stress-free breakfast and squeeze in a morning walk or hike before leaving. And for the winter enthusiasts, I'm told the cross-country skiing trails are endless, suitable for all ages and skill levels.
the dinner was exceptionel
Excellent location, really good breakfast and the sauna in the room was a big plus.

Very quiet. Suits for people who want to hike nearby.
Not very friendly lady at check-in.
Extra cost to pay for a private road.
Limited and expensive option for dinner.
It was only 1 blanket and 1 towel for 2 people in the room.
Nice location. We ordered the 3 course menu, which was just amazing! Near to the hotel, there is a nice view.

L’emplacement et le restaurant est une très bonne adresse.
Fantastic location, easy access to multiple trailheads. Cute cabins, great breakfast.

The hotel compound is simply beautiful. From the cabins to the pond, everything looks amazing. And those views! Just great. The area is also very quiet and offers nice walks in the woods. The room, although quite small, had lots of character and was decorated appropriately. The breakfast was very good.
We had to wait a very long time at check-in due to the employee being on the phone. At no point did they even acknowledge us, let alone call someone else to check us in. The room wasn’t cleaned all that well (lots of hair and other debris on the floor). To access the hotel, you have to use a local toll road (40kr. each use), which wasn’t mentioned during booking and really adds up if you make several trips down the mountain.
We were accomodated in the separate house with 5 rooms and a shared lounge. We were lucky to stay there alone, no other guests. The room was spacious enough, very cosy and clean. Breakfast was rich and fresh. Especially would like to mention dinner. The quisine was delicious, Chef is a real master! Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the perfect stay)
This is the perfect hotel: lovely views of the landscape, the room was beautifully decorated old Norwegian style without compromising luxery, the food was excellent and the ingrediënts were homegrown, plucked in the wood or locally grown, the hotel itself was a beauty on it’s own. The personell excellent and very friendly with a story to tell.
I cannot think of anything
