MARGOSA MOUNTAIN VILLA

Exceptional, 5* experience, fantastic bird watching over the lake from our upstairs balcony which was huge, Owner Ravi and his family are great, can’t recommend this place enough. Not the cheapest place around but worth every paying for this luxury.

A gem, just a few metres from the main road. Absolute tranquility. Fantastically bright corner room with large balcony on the first floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides offer sweeping views across the lake to the mountains. Large pool and sunbeds on the ground pool.
Fresh welcome pineapple drink for me and my visitors. Very friendly and generous host. Alcohol is available. On request, I was given a home-cooked Sri Lankan breakfast prepared by his wife.

The setting was fabulous, beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife.
Place was spotlessly clean.
Ravi and his family were great hosts. Food was the best we had in Sri Lanka.
We were well looked after and any issue (minor one) was dealt with immediately.

This place was faraway from crowd for those who like to enjoy the calmest most poetic atmosphere. Though it was only 30 minutes away from Sigirya Rock which I really recommend visiting early in the morning. Mr. Ravi was very welcoming and generously kind and caring with two lovely little girls and his beautiful wife helping him. He served us many delicious plates, and suggested for us to go on a walk to the nearby lake and come back through the forest. I can’t describe how romantic and poetic the lake was, surrounded by the beautiful rice farms. The villa was huge and had an outdoor bathroom which gives a special feeling taking a bath in the nature.

Das Anwesen ist sehr geplegt, Mittags am Pool gabs immer eine Aufmerksamkeit wie ein Saft oder Eis und das Frühstück und auch das Abendessen waren super lecker.
Der Host war sehr nett und hat sich persönlich um alles gekümmert, weshalb auch keine Service Charge angefallen ist👍🏻.
Die Zimmer waren sauber, und der Ausblick vom Balkon aus war sehr idyllisch.
Wir haben auf unserer Backpacking Rundreise hier 2 Nächste mal richtig abschalten können und können es absolut weiterempfehlen.

2 nuits dans cette magnifique maison avec une vue incroyable , nous avions les 2 chambres et cela nous permettait de bénéficier de toute la terrasse pour nous seul. La piscine est egalementv un sacré avantage grande et exposé au soleil , les repas pris petit déjeuner et dîner étaienit très bon . De plus , on est dans un endroit calme avec le lac qui permet de voir les fermiers travailler autour. Dejplus l'eau est filtré, on peut doc la boire sans danger.

This property has to be seen! We stayed here for one night, and could’ve easily stayed here for a lot more! The owners are amazing, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Not only did they cook us the most amazing food we’ve had in Sri Lanka! But they also went out of their way to make things for us without being asked. They used a lot of produce from their own land, which they grow on site. They are also building some other beautiful villas, one is already operational and the other is nearly finished and comes with his own swimming pool! We stayed in the main house and the rooms were breathtaking, you could easily wake up to that view every morning. Swimming pool was perfect, everything including the pool was super clean! All the ground staff were lovely. I’m from every part of this property you can view the massive lake, with absolutely beaming with wildlife. Nothing quite like waking up and seeing Eagles flying by.

We had the pleasure of staying at Margosa Mountain Villa, and it was an unforgettable experience.  It's  really an amazing place to stay. We were completely impressed with the quality and tranquillity of the Marogosa. The atmosphere of the location is splendid. The rooms are more spacious, clean, and neat. All required facilities are there. The owner and his wife cook foods deliciously. The response rate is 💯. We definitely choose the same venue in our next leisure since it's absolutely more than the money that we paid.

From the very first moment, we felt right at home. The hosts were incredibly caring and kind, making us feel like part of their family. Their warm welcome and continuous attentiveness made our stay truly special.

One highlight was definitely the tour with the host (Rabi) to see the lorises. These fascinating creatures, which are hardly seen anywhere else in the world, left us completely enchanted. It was a wonderful experience that we highly recommend.

Immaculately maintained property. Gorgeous panoramic view from the room and balcony of mountains and lotus ponds. Spot egrets, parrots, butterflies and apparently loris. You can enjoy a late afternoon walk around the lake after a cooling swim in the pool. Return for the sunset and delicious rice & curry.

We only stayed at this small boutique hotel for the one night, en route back to the airport and all we can say is: Wow! What an absolutely amazing hotel, everything was to the highest standard in every aspect of this hotel; we opted for the Elephant suite which afforded us the most amazing views over the lakes and mountains and these were truly breath taking, the birds and wildlife we witnessed in this short stay was amazing: Sea Eagles, parrots, barbets, minor birds, herons ibis it was breath taking and the hotel even organises trips to see the slender loris which we intend to do on our next visit, as it was that amazing we are already planning our return visit there as it is also very central for many of the other local tourist attractions. Our meals were all individually cooked and prepared and once again all we could say was ‘Wow!’ The food was definitely next level compared to anything else we experienced during our stay; our dietary requirements were discussed on our arrival and we were blown away by the standard of our traditional Sri Lankan dinner that was cooked for us and the deep fried lake fish was a first and most exquisite accompaniment to the dinner all of it was absolutely delightful and after we finished breakfast on the day we departed I didn’t think I would need to eat again for a week, everything was home grown freshly prepared and amazing, our hosts were attentive and so friendly we would definitely recommend this hotel and will most certainly return. Thanks to Ravi and his wife for one of the nicest hotel experiences of our life.

We honestly had the most magical one night stay, we wish we had time to stay longer. The most beautiful location with mountain views and so much bird life over the lake. It was amazing to wake up to a view like that, especially being able to lie in bed in the morning and see the whole view!

The owner and his family were so lovely and made the most delicious food. They have worked hard to create a beautiful hotel with the most gorgeous and sustainable surroundings. They have planted paddy and maintain a lake as well as filtering all the water in the hotel. It was really impressive to see what they have achieved. Thank you for the stay, really recommend a visit here and we look forward to visiting in the future.

I will tell anyone coming to Sri Lanka - stay with Ravi at Margosa Mountain Villa. Best stay on our trip and top 5 lifetime. Stunning setting. Perfect room. Delicious food -organic rice, fruit, fish etc. right from the property, expertly cooked by Ravi’s wife Sewwandi. Pool is sublime. Birds galore (and easy to find and ID with Ravi’s help). Booked for two days. Stayed for 4. Great spot for excursions Dambulla, Sigiriya, and beyond, but we were happy just to relax and meditate on our good fortune to be there. Ravi spent 23 years as tour guide and it shows both in his care and expertise. I know this review sounds like a plug from one of his friends but I promise that 5 days ago we’d never met. But, yes, we have definitely made a new friend. Stay as long as you can.

You are completely in the nature, only animals and plant sounds, you can free your soul from the rest. The staff is very kind and treat you like a friend
