Staff were very nice and helpful. Nice traditional ambiance to the old house. The garden areas and walkways to river and beach. The evening meal and breakfast were both excellent.
Only evening meal options were a 7 course taster menu and a 3 course menu. As Forss House is remote and you would have to drive to Thurso for any other dining option it would have been nice just to have some main course only options.
La rivière au pied de l'hôtel, le cadre manoir et le personnel
Beaucoup de corbeaux sur le site
Forss House was a great stop off as we travelled the NC500. The staff were all lovely and accommodating.
We enjoyed having a drink in the bar and looking out over the grounds.
We also chose to have dinner which was really nice.
We felt our room needed a little bit of a freshen up. There were quite a few scuffs and paint chips and just didn't give it the feel we expected from the photos seen online.
We also had a broken shower, however this didn't impact our stay.
Quiet, peaceful and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had a garden room and the natural life was amazing!
We didn’t eat in the property as we felt it was expensive. A choice of a none 3 course meal would have been better. The NC500 can be very tiring and Often you just want to eat and sleep.
Was comfortable and pretty

Expensive limited menus
The rooms we stayed in were fabulous, my friend and I were given 2 rooms in millers cottage and both were beautiful and the arrangement suited us perfectly. It had a private entrance with one room upstairs and one downstairs. The upstairs room had a separate sitting area and the downstairs had an exit out to the side of the river (plus the most lovely bathroom).
Staff were also really helpful and friendly, we didn’t eat in the hotel but we went for a drink in the evening. The lounge was warm and cosy and service was perfect.
Absolutely nothing
The service is second to none! Spacious room with history embedded into the location
Everything was fantastic
Stunning place, very authentic and traditional. Lovely room, comfortable and cozy.
Definitely recommend!
Peaceful area
It was a bit worn off, not a 4*standard, for instance flaking paint on bathroom ceiling
A beautiful hide-away. Great staff and the room was lovely - the bathroom was spectacular.
Bed was a little too soft for our personal preference, but everything else was perfect.
Lovely property close to a waterfall. Very clean
It seemed understaffed. Particularly at dinner
Accommodation was well-appointed and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.
The TV was a bit hit and miss as the WiFi signal kept dropping apart from that everything was very good.
De locatie en kamer.
Geen punten.
Secluded quiet location, short distance from Thurso. Friendly staff at reception. The room was a good size, stately home decor. The bed was very comfy. Free and easy parking.
Expensive to dine!
I had a nice dinner
For some reason, my room was located in a small cottage a few minutes away from the main hotel building, in the woods next to the waterfall. It was a separate cottage with several rooms, each with its own private entrance directly from outside. Other rooms were unoccupied.
As a young woman travelling on my own, this felt quite unsafe to me, as anyone could potentially approach my door from the forest. I am not usually a paranoid or overly fearful person and generally consider myself quite brave, but sleeping alone in the middle of the woods felt unsettling.
Although the door did lock, it did not feel particularly secure, and it seemed like it could easily be opened. In the evening, I called reception to ask whether there were any rooms available in the main building. However, I was told, “It is safe, you shouldn’t worry about it.”
As a result, I slept with the lights on and barely got any sleep.
