Weekend stay.
Pros:

Room was quiet, bathroom was great! Lovely shower.

Cons:

Bed was a small double so not a great nights sleep. Window in bathroom had a broken latch so no way to secure it or the room. After leaving the hotel, I realised that I had accidentally left my phone charger in the room. I was reassured during a follow-up phone call that the charger had been found and would be kept safely in a drawer at reception until it could be collected.
Follow up: Unfortunately I did not receive my charger back after being advised by a receptionist it had been 'misplaced'.
The hotel Manager contacted me and graciously offered to send me a replacement. Be warned, I was also advised that any items left behind will be given to 'a charity' if not claimed within a certain time frame.

A lovely warm "welcome back" from duty receptionist Ellie, on arrival.

A great place to stay in the heart of the Peak District but don’t expect the grandeur of the exterior to be matched insi
Pros:

Impressive building and great location

Cons:

In serious need of some TLC. Peeling wall paper, unclean carpets, scattered remnants of glasses, bottles, footwear lying around that hadn’t been cleared up. Obviously a highly rated wedding venue, we stayed two nights and there was a wedding on both nights. Other guests seem somewhat overlooked. Breakfast location was disappointing.

Very disappointing stay – sadly not as advertised
Pros:

The location.

Cons:

Very disappointing stay – sadly not as advertised

We recently stayed at Wortley Hall Hotel as a surprise getaway for myself and my partner after we had been through a particularly difficult period. I chose the hotel because of its beautiful appearance, the way it was advertised online, its location and, initially, what seemed to be a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the reality of our stay was extremely disappointing.

From the outside, the venue is genuinely impressive and has a lot of character. The grounds and the building itself are attractive, and it is clear that this is a historic property with a lot of potential. Sadly, once inside, it became apparent that the hotel is very poorly maintained and significantly more run-down than the photographs and advertising would suggest.

There appeared to be numerous maintenance issues throughout the building, which left the interior looking shabby, tired and neglected. It is particularly disappointing because a building of this age and character deserves to be properly maintained and looked after.

Our room was the biggest disappointment. I had high expectations based on the photographs, which portrayed the rooms as clean, comfortable and well presented. Instead, we were given a dated, poorly maintained and unclean room. There was wallpaper peeling from the walls, lights that were not working, marks on the walls and flooring, visible damage, cracks in the walls, and the ceiling above us was clearly in disrepair and looked concerningly unsafe.

The room also had extremely thin walls. We could hear people walking around, moving about and even having relatively quiet conversations in neighbouring rooms. This made it very difficult to feel that we had any privacy or peace and quiet.

The lack of mobile phone reception in the rooms was also an issue, particularly as the Wi-Fi connection was extremely poor. This made communication and accessing the internet unnecessarily difficult during our stay.

Cons:

We got a special offer and although the hotel was very quiet when we stayed, we felt we where put in a room with no view cause we got a good offer and paid £48.

An amazing place with fascinating history, but now very run-down.
Pros:

The grounds and gardens are amazing. It is a really wonderful place to explore. Breakfast was good.

Cons:

The bar meal was not great, and because there was a wedding party, it was impossible to find anywhere quiet to eat.

Don't attend during wedding season !!
Pros:

Staff were very good, location and grounds excellent .
Food very good.
Room clean and comfortable , small but absolutely fine.

Cons:

Toilet was difficult to flush and failed completely on the morning we left , we had to use hotel toilets downstairs instead. No other room issues.

Worst issue was the weddings on site over the weekend. We could not access our room via the stairs after check in and most of the afternoon as photos were being taken using staircase.
Crowds of wedding guests in the only bar area meant we were unable to use the bar at all.
I left the dining room between courses during evening meal and was unable to get back to finish meal for a long period as more photos bring taken totally blocked the only route back.

It felt like us as hotel guests came a poor second to the wedding guests. We paid good money to stay and were totally unable to use the facilities effectively

I have often stayed at hotels hosting weddings, usually the wedding guests use separate areas of the hotel meaning hotels guests can still effectively use the hotel as needed.

It totally ruined our long awaited weekend away.
