Union Hotel

Das Klimagerät im Zimmer war Tag und Nacht wahnsinnig laut.

Rooms are small. I ordered 2 beds on Expedia but got a single queen bed upon registration. Front staff were not flexible to assist in getting 2 beds.

Heating. Large noisy heater/aircon that you had to turn on otherwise room was cold. No heating in bathroom

7:40 AM and ordered a coffee and Eggs Benedict. As it was a work day and my office is just a 5-minute walk away, I planned to be at work by 9:00 AM.

After paying upfront, I received my coffee at 7:43 but then began what turned into an agonizing wait. Every 10 minutes, I asked the attendant about my order, and each time I received the same response: "It's getting ready, sorry, the kitchen is busy." Even after 8:00 AM when new staff arrived, nothing changed.

By 8:25, frustrated and running late, I attempted to leave. I was offered a Danish as a stopgap, but I declined - I wanted the meal I had paid for. When my food finally arrived, it was the complete opposite of what I had ordered. I had clearly specified that I dislike hard-poached eggs and requested them soft. Despite this explicit instruction, I received eggs so overcooked they had the texture of boiled eggs. I was so disappointed that I left without eating.

When a staff member at the bar asked if I didn't like the food, I explained the situation. Her follow-up question - "Is the breakfast included with your reservation or did you pay for it?" - felt dismissive at what was already a breaking point. When I confirmed I had paid, she offered to prepare another order or provide a croissant or scone, but by then the damage was done. I thanked her and left.

While I recognize this may seem minor in the grand scheme of life's challenges, it's not how I expected to start what was a very important day at work. I had simply hoped for a good meal to fuel me for the day ahead. Instead, this experience completely derailed my morning.

As someone who has traveled consistently for over 15 years, I can say with confidence that this is not the standard of service or quality I expect for a $30 breakfast in downtown Toronto.

I plan to stay at the hotel again, but I cannot in good conscience recommend the restaurant to anyone unless they're prepared for a similarly disappointing...

Small rooms

The only downside was the noise of the heating coming on in the room, there were times it woke me up during the night but was very minor in comparison to the positives of our stay.
