Pros:

The spa was beautiful. It felt clean and well equipped. The room was large, comfortable, quiet and really clean, the central location is perfect for relaxing and exploring.

Cons:

We were told at check in that the spa was included with our room, we were then handed a £50 add on spa charge upon check out. For the experience we had we still deemed the price good value, I just didn’t appreciate how it was done, it wasn’t mentioned anywhere when I booked the room. When I questioned it the receptionist couldn’t have cared less, it was very early and I didn’t want the confrontation so we just paid it.

Overall, we were disappointed - we thought it was very ordinary in every way. Guy guy
Pros:

Breakfast was very ordinary in every thing except the cooked menu; unexciting selection of cereals, of toppings, of bread; no bowl of fruit, no prunes, no fresh juices etc.

Cons:

The breakfast was very disappointing for a 4* hotel. In the bedroom, 1 hot chocolate and 4 teabags seemed stingy, and very ordinary biscuits. There was no moisturiser cream. The USB sockets did not appear to work. XL flip flops were unsuitable for a lady!

Ideal and comfortable for the BIF
Pros:

Location, comfort of room and bed.

Cons:

Service in the restaurant was a little slow both at dinner and breakfast. Soup at 2 course dinner had a piece of bread that was dry on top. A roll would have been better but they would have charged £2.

Not again
Pros:

The suite was lovely.

Cons:

Crumbs on the sofa from someone's biscuits.
Dirty glasses at the evening meal, had to return twice. The meal was underwhelming and over priced for the for the service we got. Staff seemed irritated and more pre- occupied by the "large group" we got told that they're in and effectively they take priority. Very unprofessional. Didn't like the extra charges to use the spa, the money I payed it should have been included. Paid for breakfast but it was not existent. Large queue to just get seated, staff complaining to customers about the high volume of people. Never have I stayed somewhere where you don't just get seated when you turn up. 5*. NEVER.

Exceptional hotel in every way
Pros:

The whole Crescent experience is fabulous. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Rooms are spacious tastefully decorated and clean, beds are very comfy. Breakfast and the evening meal were excellent and we were well looked after The jewel in the crown is the Spa 11/10 it is just amazing. 4 pools including an outdoor one and nods to the old Victorian spa, lots of variety in the other areas sauna etc we just had a lovely time

Cons:

Parking is the only slight negative , £30 valet parking or you can park near by the plus is the hotel provided a map and the in road parking was free and only 5 mins walk away

Buxton anniversary
Pros:

The room was exceptional, the Spa facilities excellent, the food was lovely.

Cons:

Poor service for the evening meal and lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room, only 2 sachets of milk left and just 1 bottle of water in the fridge for 2 of us.

Loved the venue, the staff are GREAT, Spa was lovely, the restaurant mediocre, Parking lousy.
Pros:

Great location, up to date facilities, excellent Spa, Lovely staff

Cons:

They could provide parking for the guests, but unless you pay £30 to have the car parked, leave you to find your own parking and risk the local parking fines.
THIS IS NOT GOOD SERVICE, a long walk back to the hotel if its raining
A Spa Hotel, and the Spa is an extra £50
Restaurant: evening meals were mediocre, breakfast less so

Disappointed as I really value this hotel and spa and hoping Champneys pulls their socks up soon!!
Pros:

I have been to this hotel spa many times but this is the first time since it was taken over by Champneys. The spa facilities were as before and lived up to high expectations. Excellent saunas, steam and aroma rooms and the three pools were all different and enjoyable in different ways. It is a pity they demand an extra £50 per couple to use the facilities given the high cost of the rooms. This is a significant change from the previous arrangements. I did ask for a concession as I had not been forewarned about this additional charge and it was granted thankfully but not before I said it was a deal breaker.
I found that the overall standard of the building itself, which is exceptional, had been maintained. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable as before but that is as far as it goes. The solitary bar person worked very hard to give her best service and did it on her own without help. In other respects the new management has failed to offer the kind of services this beautiful hotel deserves.

Cons:

The reception desk on arrival was very poor. There were two people on duty but only one worked to check in the growing line of arrivals while the other had a loud and clearly difficult conversation on the phone with someone not in the hotel. He seemed unable to draw the conversation to a close and give attention to the people waiting. In general the reception staff seemed not to be trained to welcome the visitors in a manner appropriate for this standard of hotel. On departure there were problems which it took three people to deal with, including a possible manager: I was not sure what his role was as there were no name and role badges visible. He paid no attention to other people waiting and did nothing to reduce the queue. I have been to spa hotels where people in managerial roles roll up their sleeves and do the tasks needed along with the other staff when the situation demands it.
The breakfast was very poor from the lack of several items on the menu to the abysmal quality of the fruit, juices and pastries on offer. Previously breakfast has been one of the high quality features of a stay at the hotel.
I would love this place to improve sufficiently to become the kind of destination that attracts people from everywhere: it is the Buxton International Festival right now and there are thousands of visitors and performers. Why are there no special deals with BIF to make that happen? Buxton needs this place to be of the highest standard.

Excellent hotel in a perfect location.
Pros:

The hotels location is perfect for getting to the opera house etc, close to shops, restaurants and cafes. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere. We found the room very quiet, comfortable and decorated out attractively. The air conditioning is super efficient and quiet very welcome in such hot weather. The bathroom was spacious with an excellent shower, where the water came through hot straight away. The breakfasts had a good choice of hot and cold food, it was nice that you are located a table by the very friendly and efficient staff rather than trying to find an empty table when it is busy. It was also nice that the hot drinks and the cooked breakfasts from the menu were brought to the table.

Cons:

The only thing we would have liked which is only a minor thing really, would have been a few more coat hangers in the room as we stayed three nights and there was not enough really.

Magnifique, très agréable, très apaisant.
Pros:

Disappointing Stay
Pros:

The location and history of the property are very special.

Cons:

The interior decor was more corporate than I was expecting and did not do justice to the building. The superior room lacked a coffee maker and the toiletries were not replenished for our second night. You can only use the pool if you pay a £25 pp Spa supplement for the first day and £15 on each additional day. The breakfast service on our second day was awful there simy we're not enough staff and there did not appear to be anyone managing the service.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short visit and we intend to return at some point to stay a bit longer.
Pros:

We only stayed one night, meeting up with old friends, but every aspect of our short stay was excellent.

Cons:

My only criticism would be regarding check in and check out times when 2 reception staff were somewhat overwhelmed at these very busy times.
