The position.
Problems at breakfast with their timings.
No chest of drawers in room to unpack clothes.
Excellent location. Spa facilities are good. Building is beautiful externally.
A lot! It is not a 5 star hotel and is very poor compared to the 3 other Champneys facilities we have stayed in. Bedrooms are adequate but at 4 star level only. Dinner in the restaurant was a disaster- dreadful service, an interminable wait and poor food. Breakfast on the 4 days we were there ranged from totally unacceptable ( many food items not available no crockery no glasses long waits for tables staff in complete confusion) to moderate chaos ( frequently no plates or dishes, some items unavailable, staff disorganised). Public areas are gloomy and the long corridors feel very institutional. Housekeeping was inconsistent with different tasks or items left out on different days. When we checked out there were several items in the bill that were not ours. The most common phase I heard from staff, to other clients as well as to us, was ‘ I can only apologise’ They need to do a lot more than that!
The room was excellent and the hotel was a good base to discover the town. Breakfast was lovely.
We could not fault any part of our stay.
Poorly trained staff were not what is expected in a hotel of this type
Beautiful heritage property, so central for everything. Room was comfortable and very clean. Spa and pool were excellent.
Breakfast carnage! The serving and ordering system isn’t working and there were dreadful delays both days (we waited an hour and 45 mins on the second day but our food never came). Staff are clearly very stressed and it’s needing a complete overhaul.
Spa was great! Good selection of different saunas / steam rooms and pools
Breakfast was chaos both days of our stay; something is evidently wrong in the kitchen as orders were backed up for hours in some cases (no exaggeration) and the cooked food that eventually emerged was not worth waiting for.
Also, booking the spa was more complicated than it needed to be, as the main hotel reception won't handle it and the website is poor.
Plenty to choose from for our breakfast in the morning. The hotel is very central to everything in buxton. Not far from the theatre and restaurants.
Nothing to complain about from us. We had a lovely time. Can not fault this hotel.
The room and the spa are lovely
We had a bit of a wait for breakfast on the first day but wasn't a problem.
On the second day my husband joined us for breakfast. The staff were lovely and found us a table downstairs as there wasn't a table for three available in the restaurant. A couple leaving the restaurant did say they had waited 40 mins for breakfast and had decided to leave. The couple sitting downstairs had waited an hour before they left. I didn't check how long our teas and coffee took to arrive. When one of the staff asked if we wanted more tea and coffee as we had been waiting so long for our breakfast we said we hadn't received any yet. In the end the wait for breakfast was 2 hours. We arrived at 9.30 for brekkie and our food arrived at 11.30.
The outdoor pool and the breakfast
That the price didn’t include use of swimming pool
Beautiful hotel
Kevin on the desk
Megan in the spa
Was not clear about Spa being an extra charge
Very good accommodation in a great location.
You had to pay extra for using the pool ands spa facilities, even though some of main pools was closed off for renovation.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff and great facilities.
Nothing
The outside is stunning and the roof top bar, staff friendly and the bed is the comfiest thing ever
The breakfast was average, the spa facilities especially downstairs felt outdated and one of the pools filters was thick with grime. I was shocked this was classed as 5 stars more like 4
Super clean room and very comfy bed
Lovely hotel
Room was spacious and well appointed. Great shower. No turndown service.
On arrival we ordered a sandwich and some fries at 12:10 believing we had plenty of time before a performance we had booked for 2pm. After 40 minutes waiting we had to chase as no sign of our order had been given. The order arrived after 50 minutes but the toast on the sandwiches was cold and unpleasant (we left that) and ingredients listed on the sandwich menu were missing. No sign of apology for lateness or omissions. Complaint was made and eventually credit was given.
We arrived back after our event and got into our room which were good and spacious
Breakfast in the morning was shambolic. We arrived at 9:15am to wait in a queue as tables weren’t being cleared effectively and identifying where to sit residents (we were a 4) was obviously a problem. The buffet wasn’t being replenished so the fruit to accompany yogurt was exhausted as was butter and pastries were short. The ordered main courses arrived promptly and were good. We had breakfast with tables around us remaining uncleared.
Lovely hotel with great spa facilities. The breakfast was excellent.
It was busy at breakfast and the staff were struggling to keep up
