Lovely room with a large modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and welcoming, with an excellent breakfast (Well worth the £12 extra).
On arrival, they changed our room so that we were in a quieter part of the hotel.

Too many steps
Really old building, in the centre of the town, great car parking, wonderful bar area, staff very nice and friendly, the rooms have been kept as original but with added modern shower room, the staircases are wonderful as is the whole building, however this property is not for those that want modern rooms, but if you like old beautiful buildings then this property is definitely worth looking at.

Noisy extractor fan that stayed on for ages after turning off the light. Hairdryer awkward to use.

Lovely quirky 17th century inn full of character. Beds were comfortable.
Access to our room was difficult for us due to a combination of our age and the very heavy door which sat close to a foot higher than the level you stand at meaning you had to stretch up to reach the handle. When it came to booking out we couldn't find anyone to hand the keys to despite searching high and low and calling out. Just left the keys on the bar.
Crown Hotel is right in the middle of Downham Market and therefore great in terms of walking round the town, a good few independent shops and a great bakery called Mabel near clocktower. Staff always welcoming and keen to help and there is a good choice of beers in the bar. Not eaten there so cant comment on food.
It is a very old building and therefore some of the rooms are small and bathrooms likewise and expect plumbing likewise but that is to be fair not something that can be changed but more storage in the rooms and bathrooms would help, a simple shelf in showers would make a difference.
We loved the location in centre of town.
Our room was over the bar so some people may not like it but it didn't bother us as we where out and got back at closing time.
