Lovely small new boutique hotel with traditional touches.
easy transportation connections to everywhere; friendly staff; room is cozy, spacious and comfortable with dedicated facilities; - in a nutshell, it well worth the money paid!
The trash is not collected everyday and it seems that I need to clean the bathtub during my stay. Maybe that’s what it is but I would expect a notice in advance. Anyway the hiccups won’t impact my full score for the wonderful family-style hotel!
Spacious, hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Helped to plan a surprise as well and made bookings to restaurants.
We also had a washing machine and they provided many amenities like detergent coffee bath salts tea.
Location requires some additional walking but convenient nonetheless.

Les gérants sont si agréables. L’endroit est au calme. Les chambres sont spacieuses. La décoration est soignée et réfléchie. Nous nous sentons comme à la maison.

Tanakawa Kyoto Karasuma hotel offered a wonderful stay with its clean, comfortable rooms and warm, welcoming staff. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the service is consistently excellent. A great choice for exploring Kyoto lifestyle. The Sake testing and pairing free experience was quite delightful.
Staff was super friendly, welcoming and accommodating. There were little perks we appreciated, like fresh coffee beans and a pour-over system with the kitchenette, free bluetooth speaker, portable wifi device to take throughout the city, and Japanese bath salts for the luxurious tub.
Not the fault of Tanakaya, but there was construction happening outdoors, so having the window open during the daytime wasn't comfortable because of the noise. This was a small thing, and not a big deal at all.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming and kind, nothing was too much trouble, the room was superb, quiet, clean and suited us perfectly.
The little touches (like bath salts) and even a sake tasting were incredible.

Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. Place is very clean. The free wifi device to take along during the stay is a plus !!!. Coffee beans and tea is left in the room every day. Cookies on the first day. The room we picked had a washing machine which is nice while traveling for a long time. Overall it was a wonderful pick as it is peaceful and quiet inside while Kyoto is overcrowded with tourists.
A heating element in the bathroom would make it more comfortable while showering or taking a bath.
The traditional bathtub is nice as you are able to soak your body but if you are tall 5'10"+ (which most Japanese are not), the bathtub is too small. a few inches bigger tub would have fit in the space.
There is an electric cooktop in the room (also a microwave and fridge) but no idea what that is for as there are no pots or pans in the room. There aren't even spoons or bowls in the room although the description says kitchenware. We wanted to have some yogurt and granola before starting our days (as we left around 5:30-6 am) to try to beat the crowds. We asked for spoons/bowls and although they gave us some spoons they didn't have any bowls and told us we could buy them at the convenience store.
