Hornbill Forest Habarana

Personal war sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Zimmer sehr geräumig und Betten sind sehr bequem. Frühstück war sehr gut und umfangreich.

We cannot praise Shashika and Athula enough for creating a little piece of heaven in Habarana.
Yes, the rooms are amazing, the facilities carefully designed by an architect, and you feel like you are living inside the forest, but without their relentless effort and hospitality the place would not be what it is.
We've traveled around the island and this is by far the best breakfast you will ever have. Everything is freshly prepared - you will always get a giant fruit bowl, followed by a main course that changes every day (pancakes, french toast, traditional sri lankan cuisine ...).
I highyl recommend this hotel.

Het personeel is echt super! Heel aardig en behulpzaam.
Accommodatie is echt heel mooi en ruim. Je hebt echt het gevoel alsof je midden in jungle zit, terwijl je op loopafstand van het centrum bent.
Ontbijt is erg goed!
Zwembad is niet groot, maar schoon en heerlijk om af te koelen.

Très contents de cette villa qui nous a permis de loger en famille grâce aux chambres communicantes. La petite piscine était super, largement suffisante pour se rafraichir. On a adoré se sentir plongés dans la jungle et observer la faune depuis la belle terrasse : plein de singes super drôles, des petits écureuils adorables, plein d'oiseaux, une mangouste... C'était fantastique.
Et les chambres sont très confortables.
Les PDJ sont très copieux, avec des spécialités Sri lankaises différentes chaque jour.

Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr bemüht! Shashika war für jede Frage die wir hatten für uns da. Er hat sich sogar sehr liebevoll um unsere Kinder gekümmert. Es wurden unsere Ausflüge organisiert und das Frühstück ist einfach Klasse. Jeden Tag bekamen wir was anderes und es war seeeeehr lecker. Wir kommen aufjedenfall irgendwann wieder!

Super schoon, het is fantastisch mooi opgezet en ingericht. Het zwembad bij het water waar zoveel dieren leven. Ontzettend lieve en behulpzame mensen.

The location of this place is superb, just on the edge of Habarana, set in a small patch of forest, with monkeys, birds and other wildlife all around. Although only a minute from the main road, it feels like you are immersed in nature. The accommodation is essentially a tree house with a plunge pool below it - best appreciated in the morning to avoid the mosquitoes.

We loved the villa which had 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a nice kitchen, and a private pond. Great jungle stay

If you’re looking for a truly unique experience in Habarana, this is the place to be. From the very beginning, everything exceeded our expectations. Aruna, the owner, went above and beyond by personally picking us up from the airport and driving us all the way to the property—a journey of around six hours.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff, Sanjay and Shashika, who made sure every detail of our stay was perfect. We mentioned our allergies in advance, and they took great care to prepare food that was completely allergy-free—everything was fresh, beautifully made, and absolutely delicious.

The property itself is stunning and unlike anywhere we’ve stayed before. One of the highlights was the open-air bathroom, where you might even find monkeys popping by to say hello while you get ready for the day—an unforgettable experience!

I had planned to propose to my girlfriend during our stay, and the team truly made it magical. They suggested an even better location than the one I had in mind, and later that evening surprised us with a private, romantic dinner under the trees—it couldn’t have been more perfect.

We were also shown around the local sights by the wonderful Sarat, who made the experience even more special by inviting us to his family home. There, he gave us a cinnamon-making demonstration and shared fascinating insights into the local history and wildlife.

On our final day, Aruna and Shashika presented us with a beautiful moonstone gift and a framed photo of us from the proposal—such a thoughtful and touching gesture that left us genuinely overwhelmed.

Leaving Hornbill was bittersweet, as we truly felt like we had found a second family in Sri Lanka. This is an experience we will cherish forever. Thank you all for such an unforgettable stay.
