During the summer months the area surrounding Chollerford where the George is located is a beacon to hikers. I had just come in from a fairly long and gruelling hike. The staff at the bar simply smiled, brought me over a great cup of tea, some nibbles which were not exactly on the menu, but were nourishment for a hungry hiker. This was topped off by the check in who when I asked if I could have a room with a bath to soak my weary bones made a real effort even though the hotel was full and offered me an upgrade to a large double room, plus bath plus seating area. North England hospitality and service at its best in a superb location next to the Tyne river.
The self service part of the breakfast buffet perhaps requires a bit more attention even if it is only aesthetic.
Clean tidy room and the location was great for walking Hadrains’s wall
Nothing
Location was great for those walking the wall
The staff seemed so annoyed at us
Very handy for the AD122, lovely location next to the river, nice beer garden ( bring your cosi if you fancy a dip in the river, lots of people do.) Great room and a lovely breakfast.
Nothing.
The rooms are spacious and a good view .
The location by the river is excellent .
There is a possibilty to swim in the river from the Jetty
The food is ok but not excellent
Slow service as they ran out of bowls at breakfast! Surprising really.
Prachtige locatie, heerlijk eten
Gera vieta apsistoti einant kelią "Hadrian's Wall". Geras maitinimas.
The man on reception on arrival was very friendly and helpful.
The garden's and outdoor area is relaxing and very pretty with the riverside aspect.
Our room had everything We needed for a comfortable night.
Because the Hotel is situated on a roundabout the noise of some of the accelerating cars was really deafening for our dog..
There were also some really out of control children, kicking a football and climbing on the garden fixtures.
Breakfast was terrible. Nothing healthy apart from yogurt. Evening meal was dreadful. Could not eat my risotto and sent it back.
Communal areas dated and look dirty
The location is great - it has a lot of (unmet) potential.
It needs a lot of love. They have an article framed about the French football team staying here in ‘96 and it looks like not a lot was done since then. Rooms feel outdated, wait times in the restaurant are very long (and staff pretty much ignores you), breakfast buffet runs out of pastries and other items at 8:00. Again: lot of potential but currently it does not live up to the claims (and price).
