Allen's (owner) motto is "My home is your home" And he stands by his words. Great service, positive attitude. I had some items delivered for me in advance and they securely stored it. Very positive experience.
Cheap price, private room is comfortable with essential amenities, ideal for backpackers with simple needs! Breakfast included, albeit I was not able to experience it.
I chose this hostel based on the positive reviews and one mentioning the staff could speak in English, as my Spanish abilities are quite limited. Unfortunately after my experience I cannot recommend this place.
The taxi driver driving me to the hostel does not know where the hostel is, so I called the hostel to ask for directions. I called twice and got no response.
When we finally arrive towards 6:30PM, the lady welcoming me barely speaks English and looks like she was not expecting me. We use Google Translate to communicate. She doesn’t know anything about my reservation and asks other staff via voice messages on WhatsApp. She then proceeds to continually knock at one of the rooms' door for a good 5 minutes, with no answer (obviously the person was not in their room but for some reason she kept knocking). She eventually takes me to my room.
The owner finally arrives after a few minutes and we communicate in English. He apologizes for the situation, says the lady is new. I explain to him that I need a taxi very early in the morning (at 2:30AM) to take me to the airport. He kindly offered to make the reservation, as well as to make breakfast despite the very early time, which I appreciated.
After that, I went to my room and began settling in when the lady knocked at my door. Basically told me that I had to switch rooms, which was kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I understand that the lady is a new employee, but it seems obvious at this stage that she still needs training and supervision, and therefore that she is not yet able to handle clients on her own. Some basic English skills could help as
well.
The next morning, I slept through my alarm and woke up in panic. There was a guy in the lobby who kindly told me that he did knock at my door around 2AM when he realized I was still asleep. He called a taxi for me right away, which reassured me and gave some closure to this strange experience.
