Gaskell Arms

Everything was fine although the “management” didn’t reply to 2 emails requesting a downstairs room ( for my Mum in her 80’s) .and we ended up upstairs without any communication.

The room was a bit small but it was cozy, comfortable enough for what we needed.

Breakfast on the first morning was great but by the last morning things were a bit more chaotic and lacking in pastries, fruit and juices.

NO tea/coffee in room.
Ordered Breakfast but 30 mins later still hadn't arrived so had to leave for an appointment.
NO chicken on the menu!!

Disappointing room with the tiniest bathroom added in the corner of the bedroom. No aircon.
Food was pub 'average'.

Evening meal and breakfast was disappointing it didn’t match the quality of the hotel.

Leider gab es Probleme mit dem Koch, daher eingeschränktes Abendessen und eingeschränktes Frühstück, das war etwas schade.

Nothing that rates improvement. Perhaps rooms at the front / corner affected by some traffic noise/ rumble, but can’t complain.

We were told on arrival that the restaurant was closed that evening for a private function ! Walked into town and most amenities were also close as it was a Wednesday ? Ended up buying food from a local shop to eat in our room ! Not ideal at all !!!!

The bed was upstairs but the toilet was on the ground floor. Not ideal for us.

Plumbing a bit noisy. Otherwise room was fine

Breakfast could be earlier

I was given room 17, this was actually a separate door at the front of the building, Room was very dingy, damp smelling, The bedding almost felt damp, very dated, carpet was genuinely down right filthy, Toilet light didnt work so relied on the bulb from above the shower, I couldn’t get the TV to work, checked and there was no batteries in the remote, went to reception to be told that they knew that there was a shortage of batteries and they didn’t have any, And they then went to another room, to take the batteries out of another remote control, I stayed for 2 nights, but after seeing how bad my room was, I actually went down the street and ate at another star / restaurant. On both nights, From speaking to the staff on checkout, they know that room 17 is needing to be done up, What makes it worse is when you look at the website for that room, they are using a photo from another better room, so its so misleading,

Although we were given a superior room, not the one we had booked initially, both the room and bathroom were quite small. Also there was stairs which we struggled to climb. We had booked a ground floor but there was a booking error which was not our fault.
