We were on the fourth floor, no elevator and no handrail on the stairs.

I think that it would have been spectacular if the weather hadn’t closed the pirate ship, cable car and rope walks.
Pros:

Really well located in a beautiful area. Enjoyed the onsen.

Beautiful position and staff and lovely outdoor onsen, but take your insect repellent if bathing at dusk!
Pros:

Lovely hotel with onsen (outdoor) and everything you could want, except NO LIFT in the Plaza section of the hotel. I stayed there with my son in 2006, and we were given a kaiseki in the room in our yukatas, which was superb. This wasn’t offered on Booking.com in 2026, so I went for the cheapest option, but the staff are lovely and speak good English.

Cons:

Just the lack of a lift.

Pros:

A lovely hotel in a great location. Our room was very generous in size and we enjoyed the daily breakfast. Sadly, it was a little too hot to make the most of the on-site onsens, but they were lovely. I will definitely come back in cooler weather. The location was excellent and we were able to walk to the main street for dinner each night as well as the station to do the Hakone sightseeing loop.
