Casna Mirissa

The property’s lakefront location is gorgeous, offering lake views from our bed. In the evening we were taken on a raft ride on the lake courtesy of the owner Casun and his dad, who did the paddling. We watched the captivating bat migration which happens daily at dusk, when hundreds if not thousands of bats fly out of just a handful of trees on their nightly travels. Upon our return we beheld the beauty of the property all lit up, welcoming us invitingly.

The outdoor shower was a treat - what a magical way to start the day (or end it under the stars). Little touches like the welcome drink and ice cold scented refreshing towel made us feel like honored guests.

We particularly enjoyed the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast replete with fresh fruits, curd and treacle, and tasty “pol roti” with all the accompaniments. The grounds are nicely set up with hammocks, lounge chairs and even a little open-walled hut at the waters edge where one could sit and meditate, perform yoga or simply relax with a cup of tea.

We had a fantastic stay at Casna Mirissa staying for two nights. Not quite sure what to expect at this new little guest house we arrived to a quiet and secluded little corner of paradise. Away from the hustle and bustle of the Main Street, this private hotel overlooks a tranquil lake with beautiful gardens to relax and enjoy the view. If you wanted you can take out a boat or practice yoga in the little hut on the shoreline. The standard of the accommodation for the price was amazing. A beautiful, comfortable A/C room with a terrace to overlook the lake, but the best was a huge outdoor shower in the stylish bathroom. We had such a warm welcome from the family who run this place. So much care taken to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious and they helped arrange a turtle snorkelling trip for us which was the highlight of our trip so far. They also arranged trishaws so we could pop into Mirissa if you didn’t fancy the short walk. It was a great stay and would definitely recommend!
