Perfect location, big room, massive TV had all that was needed and staff couldn’t have been nicer

Overall a nice boutique hotel in a residential area close enough to the center.
Pros:

I think location is good. It is in a quiet residential area but still close enough to the center.

Cons:

I stayed twice at Thistle during August. August 13-16
and August 22-24. The first stay was in the Manor Suite Rm 21 which has a great layout and space.
The second stay was in Rm 20. The room was good but not as large as the Manor Suite.
The plumbing is a little noisy. I blocked out the sound after closing the bathroom door.
Otherwise, everything was good.

Breakfast (optional) is nice. The bar in the hotel is also nice. However, by 9:00 p.m. there is no food sold only drinks.

Tolles Personal
Pros:

Das Personal ist wirklich sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ich empfand die Gespräche als sehr angenehm.

Cons:

Die Sanitäranlagen in unserem Zimmer waren (eher) aus den 70er Jahren, dementsprechend hier und da morsch und teilweise bei der Benutzung mit "Sie" anzusprechen. Dadurch wirkte das Bad, obwohl es sicherlich sauber ist, nicht so sauber, wie ich Sensibelchen es gern hätte.

Le petit dejeuner est clairement en dessous de la moyenne: varieté et qualité des mets.
Absence d'ascenseur et de clim
Un peu cher pour la prestation (mais c'etait la haute saison du festival Fringe...)
Fenetre de la chambre a guillotine bloquée entre 2 positions: ok pour l'été, ais quid en hiver ?

Liked the bar at the hotel front area. It had character.

Cons:

Room we had was between the Ladies and Gents toilets and you could hear their business. The shower floor was loose and squeaked badly. The toilet bowel was loose on the bathroom floor. Our room was down in the basement area. Parking was a real pain. Only one spot available. Bed was a small double, lumpy mattress.

Wonderful!
Pros:

The breakfast was continental style. It was nice to kick off the day. The appetizers at the little bar were also good.
The neighborhood is nice and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

My room - the Manor Suite-was spacious and included a sofa and a desk.

Good value, basic accommodation in quiet area of Edinburgh, close to the main streets.
Pros:

It was a small room in a reasonably presented but rather tired old hotel. I didn't take breakfast, I literally just slept there. The room and shower was clean, the bed comfortable. The staff were super friendly and checking in and out was a breeze.
