Roots Retreat

I am absolutely thrilled to share my exceptional experience at Roots Retreat. Every aspect of our stay was perfect, leaving us with unforgettable memories and a strong desire to return.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the serene and beautiful environment. The design of the hotel is a masterful blend of aesthetic appeal and cozy comfort, creating a uniquely charming atmosphere.

The heart and soul of this place, however, are its inhabitants. The wonderful hotel residents—three graceful cats, one playful dog, and three majestic peacocks—added a magical and delightful touch to our visit.

Our heartfelt thanks especially to Monica at the hotel, whose genuine love and care for these animals is evident and truly heartwarming to see. It’s clear they are not just pets, but cherished members of the hotel family.

Our room was exceptionally comfortable and designed with great taste. Every detail was considered to ensure a restful stay. Most impressively, despite the many animals, our room and the entire hotel were impeccably clean and completely odourless—a true testament to the staff's dedication and meticulous attention to detail.

Our admiration extends to the entire hotel staff, who were incredibly friendly and attentive. The personalized service was outstanding; the owner generously recommended numerous itineraries and activities for us, which greatly enriched our trip.

The attention to detail was impeccable. Despite the animal friends, the entire hotel was spotlessly clean and completely odorless. Our room was beautifully designed and supremely comfortable, providing a perfect haven for relaxation. Furthermore, the food was utterly delicious, with every meal being a highlight.

We were thoroughly satisfied with everything and cannot stop singing its praises. This is more than just a hotel; it's a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a unique, caring, and luxurious getaway.

这里就像一座被精心打理的私人小庄园，宽阔的花园中绿树成荫、鸟语花香，仿佛走入了一处世外桃源。整洁程度更是一流，可以说一尘不染，连我们平时不习惯光脚的人，都忍不住像主人一样，自在惬意地赤脚走在屋内的每一个角落。
最让人留恋的是这里的归属感。Simon和Kate的热情好客，总是面带微笑地迎接我们，就像期盼家人归来一般温暖贴心。家中的金毛犬和三只猫咪也格外亲人，俨然已经把我们当成了自家主人，时刻黏在身边，贴心陪伴。
餐饮方面也令人十分满意。入住时早已备好了丰盛的迎宾水果和新鲜的金椰子，每天的早餐种类多样、诚意满满，根本吃不完！地理位置也很方便，离乌纳瓦图纳海滩、海龟海滩和加勒古堡都很近，我们连续两天以此为据点畅游周边，拍下了许多难忘的瞬间。
但最令人怀念的，始终是这里——这个真正像家一样的地方。希望下次再来斯里兰卡，还能回到这里，再见一见“家人们”。

Das Roots Retreat ist eine Erfahrung: selten wurden wir so herzlich empfangen und fühlten uns so willkommen. Polnische Gastfreundschaft trifft auf Sri Lanka Atmosphäre: danke an Monika, Eva und Jerzy, die uns wie Familie behandelt haben und mit denen wir tolle Gespräche hatten.

Die Unterkunft lädt zum Verweilen ein: die Anlage ist lichtdurchflutet und die Zimmer sind großzügig geschnitten..Das große Grundstück ist voller alter Bäume und wird täglich gepflegt. Es gibt einen Hund und drei Katzen, alle sehr freundlich und gepflegt.

Betritt man das eigene Zimmer, bemerkt man zu allererst, dass es gut riecht und sauber ist. Auf den zweiten Blick bemerkt man, dass alles funktioniert und durchdacht ist. Das macht den Aufenthalt dann sehr angenehm: guter Wasserdruck, eine heiße Dusche, ein großes und bequemes Bett, eine leise Klimaanlage. Die Minibar ist gut bestückt und das Duschgel und Shampoo ist ausgewählt. Es ist alles sehr stimmig. Dazu Personal, das zurückhaltend - aufmerksam und gut geschult ist. Wir sind stets angelächelt worden.

Das Essen dürfte das beste gewesen sein, das wir in Sri Lanka hatten. Der Superlativ ist durchaus angebracht. Das gilt für das üppige Frühstück wie für das Abendessen (Kosten: 4.500 LKR).

Man schaltet schnell ab, denn es ist ruhig. Deswegen waren wir gerne länger geblieben als die drei Tage am Ende des Urlaubs!

Einige Kleinigkeiten zum Schluss:

- das Gelände ist ummauert, es gibt rund um die Uhr jemanden, der das Tor öffnet und für Sicherheit sorgt.
- man braucht für die meisten Unternehmungen ein Tuktuk (mit der PickMe App kostet es gut 1.50€ in die Stadt)
- es gibt einen Teich, in dem man baden kann. Er ist natürlich gehalten und mitten im Garten.
- das Essen ist auf den europäischen Geschmack abgestimmt, ohne dass es an Gewürzen fehlen würde
- guter Kaffee! Kambucha in der Minibar

Beautiful property, rooms and garden, delicious and fresh food (both breakfast and dinner). Perfect attention to detail - oasis where you can rest and at the same time you have easy access to nearby attractions. Great recommendations from Kasia and Monika on what to visit. Roots Retreat has a special positive energy, thanks to friendly and welcoming owners and everyone working there. We appreciated a personalized and extremely professional workout / mobility assessment led by Szymon – this is the approach and methodology we were looking for!

Extraordinary oasis of calm. Amazing place of tranquility

Beautiful property surrounded by wild nature and a sublime garden. Landlords are a super friendly couple, all the staff is incredible helpful and nice.
Breakfast and dinner were super fresh and absolutely delicious!
The room was spacious and clean. The atmosphere is very zen.
It's just 5 min by tuktuk from the Unawatuna village and beaches and 20 min max from Galle ( which btw is absolutely worth visiting). We will come back for sure! Thank you Simon and Kate for the wonderful stay.

Such a beautiful place. Delicious and healthy food, friendly people, amazing location. There was a big garden and an open space fitness/yoga place. When we arrived, we received some fresh fruit, a coconut… Absolutely recommend this place!

Everything was perfect! We needed a couple of days of rest after a busy tour and this was the ideal, nurturing environment. The rooms, food and garden were perfect. Kate and Simon and their lovely team were generous with their space and time and took very good care of us.

Beautiful location in Unawatuna, secluded but within easy reach of the town and beach. The garden is wonderful with a beautiful natural pool to relax. The house itself is stunning and the design features so unique. The whole atmosphere is so tranquil. Simon and Katarzyna were perfect hosts, welcoming and helpful but also allowing space to relax and enjoy! Food was also delicious and wholesome. Can't recommend enough- will be back!

From the checking everything was so easy. Symon, Kate, Mónica and all the staff are very friendly and they try to make you feel at home everytime. The place is perfect to connect with yourself and the nature.
The house is beutiful and they take into account every single detail. Food is incredible, healthy and very organic.
