Lovely historic hotel close to transport
Pros:

Mortdale Hotel was perfect for my stay. Railway station just across the road. I used to stay with relatives about 20 years ago in Mortdale and I was familiar with the area. Love the historic hotel building and the quality renovations to the rooms. I enjoyed staying in the suburbs rather than in the central city. Excellent connection to airport on the train. It was great having a large screen TV. The bathroom was very spacious. Tastefully decorated.

Cons:

My stay did not get off to a good start. It was a bit confusing where to check in so I asked at the bar. The bartender went away to get the manager. When he arrived there was no welcome, no smile, no greeting. I'm not in the hospitality industry but I would greet the guest by saying "Good afternoon, welcome to the hotel". Hospitality 101. I said I had a hotel booking. The manager then asked for identification. After handing over my passport he allocated a room. In the "special notes" I had specifically requested an upper-level room with a view out to the street, He showed to my room and left. The window in the room had a view of a corrugated iron fence. I returned to the bar and asked if that was the only room available as I had made a special request. Fortunately, he found me a much nicer room that I was completely happy with. First impressions of any business can leave a lasting impression. I'm glad the manager did change my room, but his lack of a professional greeting was disappointing and a very different experience to the couple of days staying in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.

The Mortdale is a great place to stay on a budget. Highly recommend it to anyone.
Pros:

The location is fantastic, very close to where I needed to go each day and has great food within walking distance. The Menu was good and the serving sizes were awesome. Great beer and atmosphere.

Cons:

I had a great stay and could not complain about anything.

We didn’t have breakfast as meeting with family. Great location, very quiet considering in a pub and next to the station. Beds and sheets were very comfortable. The room was spacious airy clean and we were all vey happy with our stay. Definitely recommend. Julie
