The location was brilliant and staff were really friendly and helpful
The room was really dated and not great, breakfast was ok but not brilliant.
breakfast was very good and choice excellent
the building and deco looked tired and worn
it benefitted by providing lots of hot water
I chose to eat out as severing finished at 8pm
Everything. Good food. Great staff. Comfy bed. Better tap water than home. Great hike straight out of the door. Quiet. Nice atmosphere.
Nothing.
Position of hotel. Clean. Excellent staff.
Beds too soft for us. We prefer firmer beds
A little tired in places. Stayed for 2 nights and expected beds to be made for us on return to hotel. Tea/coffee making facilities were not replenished for 2nd day.
Perfect location
Food is magnificent
Brilliant value for money
We have been visiting Patterdale hotel for over 20 years mainly my husband and I and two friends never having a bad experience .We last visited with our family of thirteen last year , 8 adults and 5 grandchildren youngest being 6 eldest 18 ,3 teenagers in the middle , all loved it and wanted to repeat it this year so we booked .
Finding out it was up for sale we were not sure if it would change . We arrived Friday afternoon and from the first friendly greeting , it continued throughout our stay , from all the staff . The present staff , which we only recognised 1 from our previous visits are this hotels ASSETS and deserve high praise .
The rooms do need a little TLC but they are clean and comfortable only 2 of our group found the bed uncomfortable .
The food was fabulous , varied ,tasty and generous . The breakfast is amazing , self service with a selection of dishes you can order .
It was the first visit since dogs had been allowed and although one of our group is allergic to dogs he was perfectly alright and we didn’t have any negatives .
We shall be watching what happens to see if it will continue to be in our price range , hopefully it will .
Good centre for a large number of us (30) to meet up, with most of us able to get bookings. Catered for us all for dinner, with very helpful and friendly staff
The mattress on the bed was so soft that one felt in danger of rolling off. Our room on the ground floor looked directly into the car park - and vice versa.
The location at the head of Ullswater, albeit too distant for a view of the lake. Bus connections are convenient.
The rooms were small enough before they were subdivided to create even tinier bathrooms.
Nothing stands out as unacceptably poor, but the place is pretty tired and charmless. Pleasant enough staff, but their attitude is summed up as 'someone messed up' in response to my observation that the toppings on my pizza seemed unrelated to the menu.
It seems to be exploiting a local mismatch between supply and demand. In most locations it would be outcompeted and forced to up its act or lower its prices.
Good breakfast and evening meal. Superb location catering very well for walking community
Lack of safe & mini fridge for cold drinks.
The breakfast was good and the staff really friendly and helpful: they loved our dog and made us all feel welcome. One evening they had a singer in the bar area which made the evening fun.
We didn't like being forced onto a fixed two course menu after 5:00 pm. One evening we tried to book a lighter option at 4:45 only to be told the chef was unavailable. This, however, was sorted when the evening chef willingly cooked for us. Sound silly, but I want this to reflect the willingness of the staff to help.
It was all good.
Fantastic location! Food was really nice too
breakfast
the receptionist who greeted us on arrival who unlike the rest of the staff was friendly and interested in our plans for the stay.
service, particularly in the bar, where only one bartender was serving despite there being a line of guests waiting to buy drinks. the other bartender was only interested in stacking glasses and ignored the mounting queue.
having to pay for everything upfront despite being guests staying for 3 nights. we have never experienced such petty regulations ever before in a hotel or inn. particularly embarrassing to have to pay for evening meal at reception before eating. one wonders what would happened if we had been inclined to ask for drinks while having the meal. more than a touch of Faulty Towers to be fair.
Location to Glenridding. Bath in the room.
My room by the stairs with the door opening/shuting most of the night. Air condition unit under my windows-noisy until 20.00. Bad sound proofing, I could hear neighbours talking etc. Miserable bar staff.
The full english breakfast was amazing, worth staying just for that.
A bit old fashioned furniture, but ok.
The outside garden was lovely.
If you have a dog your experience here is limited. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant and elsewhere they stop serving at 5pm. So make sure you plan an early dinner. Also they shut the elevator at night so if you have to walk your dog after 11pm you have to use stairs. Which is inconvenient if you have an elderly dog or if your dog is sick. Staff was friendly.
