Disappointing and will NOT be repeated
Pros:

breakfast
the receptionist who greeted us on arrival who unlike the rest of the staff was friendly and interested in our plans for the stay.

Cons:

service, particularly in the bar, where only one bartender was serving despite there being a line of guests waiting to buy drinks. the other bartender was only interested in stacking glasses and ignored the mounting queue.
having to pay for everything upfront despite being guests staying for 3 nights. we have never experienced such petty regulations ever before in a hotel or inn. particularly embarrassing to have to pay for evening meal at reception before eating. one wonders what would happened if we had been inclined to ask for drinks while having the meal. more than a touch of Faulty Towers to be fair.

Pros:

Location to Glenridding. Bath in the room.

Cons:

My room by the stairs with the door opening/shuting most of the night. Air condition unit under my windows-noisy until 20.00. Bad sound proofing, I could hear neighbours talking etc. Miserable bar staff.

Dog friendly but limited
Pros:

The outside garden was lovely.

Cons:

If you have a dog your experience here is limited. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant and elsewhere they stop serving at 5pm. So make sure you plan an early dinner. Also they shut the elevator at night so if you have to walk your dog after 11pm you have to use stairs. Which is inconvenient if you have an elderly dog or if your dog is sick. Staff was friendly.

Good value and in fantastic location
Pros:

The location was perfect for the walks I was doing. Staff all helpful, free parking.

Cons:

Breakfast didn’t start til 8 am, which is late if you want to get out on the fells early

Food after 5 pm- only option was a 2 course for £25 or 3 for £30, all I wanted was a burger and chips, had to go to the pub next door- as did a few I spoke to

2 night hiking break with my dog
Pros:

Ideal ‘walkers/hikers’ hotel and dog friendly (although not allowed in the restaurant/dining room) in a beautiful setting. Large garden/outside seating area. Lovely bedroom overlooking Place Fell and Patterdale. Comfortable bed, clean linen, clean bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Cons:

Considering the hotel is popular with walkers 8:00-10:00am breakfast is quite a late start for those wanting to head out into the hills for a full day’s hiking. Also for those arriving back after 5pm, food options limited to either 2 course or 3 course set menu (£25/£30) when light bites or à la carte would be preferred.

Nice break away but basic room
Pros:

Nice location.

Cons:

Really need some a bit of tlc, room was small and no view out the window. The paintwork etc shabby and needs some updating. People appear to love it so wonder if they had got better rooms or better deals.
Staff were friendly.
Breakfast was self serve and ok.
Restaurant has a limited menu so we didn’t eat in the evening here.
Bar area dated but fine

Good walking hotel
Pros:

Good location for walking. Excellent buffet breakfast. 4 or 5 choices for each course in the evening. Tea making in the room. Free parking.

Cons:

Terrible view of the back of the kitchen from our room 117. We're used to a wider bed. Old building going back to the 15th century so it creaks a bit, which is good and bad.

Really nice and the breakfast was amazing
Pros:

Found it easy, staff were lovely and welcomed my little dog

Cons:

The only thing was I could have done with a ground floor, so I could take my little dog out easier. I was up three flights of stairs

We left early. Didn’t stay overnight. We do not recommend this hotel. Staff were pleasant.
Pros:

Nothing. A very tired looking hotel. Bedroom was gloomy. Depressing place to stay

Cons:

Poor parking. Loads of potholes and not enough space. We really struggled to find a space.

Enjoyed the stay, but this was mainly due to the location and the very good weather we had.
Pros:

Staff were good and check in was quick and easy. Breakfast was good, although restaurant was very tightly packed. Evening meal was basic but well cooked. Very good location, with plenty of walks and a flat easy 15min walk into town.

Cons:

The hotel seemed to be stuck in the 70's, decoration was tired and poor. Our bedroom was very small, with not a lot of space to get around the bed.
