Managed by a private host
Bed, toilets, shower, a/c, security all were good. There were pets: dog, cat, turtles, iguanas, and birds. The garden and pool were great. Staff worked hard to keep it all going. CasaMaya has a lively, interesting atmosphere, lots of socializing, divers coming and going, BBQs and music. Scooters & bikes available. Taxis and tuk-tuks will come to the door. Kitchen is small but adequate. 2 fridges, beer is allowed.
CasaMaya is 2k from the ferry and 2.5k from the nearest useable beach at Playa Caletita. *00 meters from a large grocery store, but an OXXO is just around the corner. No buses on Cozumel, so going to the beach is expensive by taxi or tuk-tuk. 500 pesos to rent a scooter, 200 pesos for a bicycle. The best free beaches are 20 kilometers away on the east side. 7K to the Sky Reef Bar for snorkeling & facilities. There are small, difficult spots along the coast to get into the ocean, but Cozumel is not a place to come for beaches, compared to Cancun, Playa, Tulum, Mujeres, Morelos, or especially Holbox which is the best on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Great vibes, even if you don't dive. Lots of nice chats and adventures with fellow travelers. These guys know how to run a hostel that's both comfy and fun. Whether you want to hang out and socialize, or just chill out in a hammock, there's lots of space to accommodate all.
To Pepe, Steve-O, Rudy, et al, keep up the great work, see you next time.
It feels like a family vacation house, where the environment is very friendly and all the people are super nice! The staff is also very nice! They offer dive lessons and there you can also rent a moto directly which makes it easier.
The bathroom was always a little bit dirty and the house is a little bit “far” from the city center but apart from that very good place to stay!
Great vibe. People at the place make you feel part of the family, especially if you dive. I like the dog, and I could work from the kitchen with great wiFi.
Hmm, expect rooms filled with people. Sometimes the noise and the lights can be a problem, so make sure to pack some earplugs and an eye mask.
Everything was perfect, the place looks like a sanctuary with amazing and friendly people, such a relaxing place, even though it was a bit far from the center, it was actually perfect and comfortable. The friendly dog and cat Coco were a huge bonus😉I definitely recommend it!
It's a very great hostel. There's a nice vibe between the guest. Over the day, a lot of the guest go snorkeling or diving. At the evening, they meet at a table in the hostel with a beer and are showing the videos they made while diving/snorkeling. It's possible to book diving trips directly at the hotel (it has the advantage that you don't have to go to the harbor on your own). In the garden of the hostel, there are turtles, iguanas, a cat and a dog. And the personal of the hostel are nice (diving) folks to hang out with.
Long walk from the harbor

Very friendly atmosphere.Very nice, caring ménagement. I feld like at home.
Lack of public transport in Cozumel.
Really nice place to stay, I enjoyed a couple of BBQ with Pepe & Steeve O, Pepe and his friends played tropical music and that was really nice, the hostel is clean and very cosy, I also went diving with Pepe; we were at a couple of amazing reefs.
.
- Hostel has all the necessary facilities to have a good time (several bathrooms, kitchen, strong wifi, pool, hammocks, BBQ, A/Cs, some fitness equipment) but is small enough to feel familiar and to really get to know the owners/managers and other guests
- Dive trips are organized and led by the hostel, fun if you are looking to meet dive buddies and do group trips
- Although general maintenance could be better (a lot of the furniture and kitchenware is clearly old and the walls could do with some fresh paint) there's rigorous daily cleaning, so the kitchen and other common areas are spotless
- The hostel owners/managers are also happy to help with renting a scooter (which gets delivered to the doorstep), rent out bicyles themselves, and have plenty of tips for local bars and restaurants
- An overall very fun, laid back vibe and great for solo travelers
- As mentioned above, there could be some upgrading to the furniture, painting, and pans. The design is definitely more basic and DIY compared to the super-modern hostels you can find in bigger cities.
- The hostel has a dog and a cat. Some folks might book this under the "positives", I'm not a fan of pets and another guest was allergic, so might be good to mention this somewhere upfront.
- The location is ok, but not super convenient unless you have a mode of transport (like a scooter, which I'd highly recommend in any case). There's a coffee shop, convenience store, pharmacy and eateries closeby, but it's quite far to walk to the center/beach.
